Why Did Glen Powell & Gigi Paris Break Up? Inside Their Split
Glen Powell and Gigi Paris were together for three years before they split in 2023. The two have mostly kept tight-lipped about the breakup, but have recently started opening up about what went down.
The pair’s split was highly publicized since it happened while he was filming the rom-com Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney in Australia. As paparazzi photos of the stars’ PDA-filled scenes flooded the internet, romance rumors began swirling, despite Sweeney also being in a committed relationship at the time (she and fiancé Jonathan Davino split earlier this year).
Either way, the situation appeared to take a toll on Powell and Paris’ relationship. Scroll down for everything we know about what happened.
What happened to Glen Powell and Gigi Paris?
Powell and Paris split in April 2023, but she didn’t reveal her side of the story until more than two years later. In June, Paris appeared on the Too Much podcast and addressed the breakup.
Paris claimed she was about to fly to Australia to see Powell on set and also fulfill her own work duties Down Under when she received a phone call from her then-boyfriend telling her not to come visit him. She alleged that Powell told her he and the movie’s producers made the decision.
“That’s when I hung up,” Paris continued. “And I was like, ‘This motherf**ker is done to me.’ I think that’s where I just also fell out of love. I was like, ‘Where the f**k are your balls to stand up for yourself?'”
Still, she went to Australia for work and so she could break up with Powell face-to-face. She claimed she was “not allowed near set,” which she called “very bizarre.” However, despite how angry she was, she said her conversation with the Chad Powers star was emotional. “There was lots of tears,” Paris admitted. “There were lots of things. Lots of conversations were had and we, like, tried to kind of keep it on good terms in some sort of way.”
Later in the conversation, Paris accused Powell of playing up his flirtation with Sweeney to promote the movie ahead of his real-life relationship. “I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, ‘Are they hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is she OK with this? What the f**k?’ Or stand up for myself and say, ‘No, I’m not actually OK with this, and I’m walking away,'” she shared. “So that’s what I decided to do.”
She also slammed her ex for not “respecting” her in the way he handled the situation. “Don’t make an ass out of me,” Paris continued. “Like, just don’t make a fool out of someone you’ve been with for over three years talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know? And at the end of the day, it was like, ‘Well, work comes first.’ And if that is the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away. What sucked was hot it was handled.”
Powell and Sweeney didn’t outright deny the romance rumors during filming, which also rubbed Paris the wrong way. “Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, ‘No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn’t do that?'” she wondered. “That’s all that needed to be said. And that wasn’t said.”
While speaking with GQ three months later, Powell hinted that he didn’t necessarily agree with Paris’ take on how things happened. “I will always have nothing but love for her and respect for her,” he said. “Everybody’s always going to have their own narrative on things and all that. And she’s welcome to it. Relationships are really hard. And when two people break up, they each go to their own brunch, and they will each tell their own narrative.”
Are Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney together?
No, Powell and Sweeney are not a romantic item. However, they did admit to playing into the speculation as PR for Anyone But You.
“It’s a rom-com. That’s what people want!” Sweeney told Variety. “Glen and I don’t really care. We have so much fun together, and we respect each other so much. He’s such a hard worker, and I’m a hard worker.”

However, Powell told Insider in December 2023 that it wasn’t as easy for him to play up the flirty relationship amid his breakup from Paris. “Well, look, the only reason it made things harder for me to lean into that stuff was that I was going through a very real breakup amidst a promotional tour,” he explained. “I was with someone that I really loved and cared about and was trying to kind of make sense of a lot of stuff. It was a lot easier for Sydney to lean into something like that because she’s in a very committed and wonderful relationship and she’s very happy. So it was a little harder for me.”
In March, the relationship rumors recirculated after Sweeney attended Powell’s sister’s wedding. However, by May, she confirmed she was single. “I’m learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends. And I’m loving it,” she told The Times.
Recently, Sweeney has been romantically linked to Scooter Braun, while Powell was spotted hanging out with Olivia Jade Giannulli (although they’re reportedly just friends).
