Will There Be an ‘Anyone But You 2’? Everything Sydney Sweeney & Glen Powell Have Said So Far

It’s been a second since Anyone But You took over theaters and dominated the box office — a major win for the rom-com genre — but could its success mean that a sequel is on the way?
Loosely based on William Shakespeare‘s Much Ado About Nothing, the first movie gives Ben (Glen Powell) and Beatrice (Sydney Sweeney) a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers arc. They have a meet-cute that turns into a romantic night together, but Bea hurts Ben’s feelings when she hightails it out of his apartment without a word.
Bea was planning on coming back, but then she overhears Ben talking smack about her disappearing act. The miscommunication trope at its finest! They firmly hate each other when they meet again at a wedding, but for reasons that’ll take too long to explain, they begin a fake relationship that turns into the real deal by the end.
Since it had a happy ending, what are the chances of getting Anyone But You 2? The movie’s stars, who were the subject of romance rumors because of the film, haven’t ruled it out. Read on for what both Sweeney and Powell have teased so far.
Will there be an Anyone But You 2?
The sequel is still currently unwritten (wink wink), but that hasn’t stopped its stars from talking about the possibility. “Maybe,” Powell told GQ on September 9. “I mean, I’m not writing it, so if someone is, it’s not in my inbox. I’m checking my email, kid.”
During a February 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — only a couple of months after the first movie came out — Sweeney sounded a little more certain about the odds of a sequel. She said there was “maybe, like, a high nine chance.”
More recently, in May 2025, the actress continued to fuel sequel speculation. “You’ll just have to wait and see,” she told Empire. “It’s not a no, and it’s not a yes. It’s a, ‘I don’t have an answer that I can say for you.'”
Who would be in the Anyone But You 2 cast?
Presumably, since the first film was such a hit at the box office, Powell and Sweeney would reprise their roles as Ben and Beatrice.
The jury’s still out on whether the actors in the rest of the cast would appear, since the plot revolved around them attending Bea’s sister’s (Hadley Robinson) destination wedding. She was marrying Alexandra Shipp‘s Claudia. She’s the sister of Pete (GaTa), Ben’s best friend. (Hence why Ben and Bea cross paths again.)
Claudia and Pete’s parents, played by Bryan Brown and Michelle Hurd, also might return if it makes sense in the sequel’s story. Odds are, though, that Darren Barnet (who played Bea’s ex) and Charlee Fraser (Ben’s ex) wouldn’t return, but never say never.
What would Anyone But You 2 be about?
We have absolutely no clue what direction the sequel could go, since the first movie saw Ben and Bea end up happy and in love, but the stars might have an inkling.
“We’re dreaming up a bunch of different ideas,” Sweeney told People in March 2024. “We haven’t really solidified what we want to do yet, but we’re just dreaming up a bunch of different things and seeing what clicks best.”
Who is making Anyone But You 2?
Sony Pictures produced the first, which also had Sweeney also serve as an executive producer. She’d likely be on board to do double duty for the sequel if it does happen.
Since it hasn’t been greenlit yet, there’s no director attached to the potential sequel either. Assuming that whichever studio develops it wants to recapture the magic of the first, they’d likely tap director Will Gluck again.
