Book to Screen
‘Alchemised’: Everything We Know About SenLinYu’s Romantasy Book Adaptation

It’s fan fiction authors’ world and we’re just living in it. Over the years, we’ve seen a number of fanfics turn into reworked, published books. On occasion, they’ll even make the leap to the screen, similar to Fifty Shades of Grey and The Love Hypothesis. Now, SenLinYu’s Alchemised is poised to join the ranks.
Not only that, but the author just nabbed a major seven-figure movie deal. Alchemised, which began as an alternate universe fanfic about Harry Potter‘s Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy, hasn’t even come out yet. “I’m honored by Legendary’s incredible enthusiasm for the project and can’t wait to see the world of Paladia come to life,” said SenLinYu in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
The hype is real. So, what information has been released so far about the romantasy adaptation? Read on for every detail Swooon has unearthed.
When is the Alchemised movie coming out?
Right now, we don’t know when the production process will begin, but you can get a head start by reading the novel, which comes out on September 23. Apparently, it’s just over 1,000 pages, but you’ll likely have plenty of time to finish the story before the movie comes out.
What is Alchemised about?
Originally, the novel was a fusion of Harry Potter and The Handmaid’s Tale called Manacled, posted on the fan fiction platform Archive of Our Own. The story romantically paired Hermione and Draco and featured other Harry Potter characters, but SenLinYu has changed up the names and the magic system so Alchemised is an original work.
In the author’s dark fantasy debut, former alchemist Helena Marino is a prisoner with missing memories. She used to belong to the Resistance, but it’s been destroyed by war. Corrupt guild families and depraved necromancers rule Paladia now, and Helena’s mysterious amnesia makes them wonder if she knows something important about the Resistance. As a result, she’s sent to one of the most dangerous necromancers in Paladia, who’s tasked with figuring out what she knows.
Who is in the Alchemised cast?
It’s still early days. There’s no telling who will play the Alchemised characters, but once we read the book, you can bet that Swooon will come up with a dream cast.
Who is making Alchemised?
So far, all we know is that Legendary is backing the dark fantasy adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, the deal exceeded $3 million, making it one of the the highest-ever sums paid for a book’s movie rights, sans inflation.
Is there a Alchemised trailer?
As you might’ve already assumed, not yet. But once it drops, we’ll update this page with that and all other Alchemised movie news!
