‘Kings Court’ Couple Carlos Boozer & Janaye Talk Next Steps, Wedding Plans and More

Introducing… Kings Court royalty! The Kings Court Season 1 finale, which aired on September 14, revealed that NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer has found his queen in Janaye Robinson.
Exactly a year after the show wrapped, Carlos and Janaye are still going strong. They’re excited for the future now that they can finally be public about their relationship. Swooon spoke with the happy couple about how they’ve kept the romance alive in secret, their plans for marriage and kids, and more.
You’ve had to keep your relationship out of the limelight for quite some time. How have you been navigating that?
Janaye Robinson: We’ve just been staying off social media, and we’ve just been trying not to be out on the scene. We’re not really the type of… I mean, I guess you [looking at Carlos] are kind of with work stuff, but just in social life, we’re not really out on the scene type of people. So it hasn’t been that big of an issue this year.
How have you both been able to keep the romance alive out of the public eye?
Carlos Boozer: We’ve just very intentional about seeing each other. And obviously, we’re both busy with our work stuff and family stuff, but we really make time for each other. We will go on little hidden dates here and secret dates here, and every Sunday, we’re watching ourselves on TV. It’s been pretty cool, but we’re just very intentional about how we spend our time with each other.
What’s something that you’ve both learned about each other since filming ended?
Janaye: I think for me, he’s such a classic, amazing man, in terms of that fairy tale guy that everybody wants to be with. He is constantly getting me flowers, constantly doing cute things. He’s just such a sweet person, and he’s all about me, and he chooses me every single day. I was hoping he’d be that way coming off the show, but again, we only really knew each other for four or five weeks, so I wasn’t sure what I was going to get when I got out into the real world. But that’s something I’ve learned about him. If he’s all about you, he is all about you.

Carlos: I’m all about you. I talked about this earlier, but she’s big on health. She loves me, cares about me, wants all the things, like marriage and kids, and we want the same thing, but she also wants me to be healthy. She’s got me on supplements and eating clean and working out every day. That’s a different level of love, where you really care about somebody’s health, right? And then the other thing I would say is she’s very organized, like way more organized than I thought. She’s got her day planned out every day. I actually really enjoy having structure where you get up every morning and wake up, take our supplements, we go work out, we have breakfast, we still start our day. For me, it’s just awesome to have that organization in the house now. Those are the couple of things that I learned about her pretty quickly.
What are some of your plans for the rest of the year?
Carlos: The 14th of September, even though it’s the finale, it’s also the day that I asked her to be my girlfriend a year ago. We’re celebrating our one year anniversary. I’m taking her to Napa tomorrow so we can kind of get tipsy and learn about wine the whole weekend. That’s what we’re doing right away.
Have you two thought about your next steps as a couple?
Carlos: We’re vibing. She lives in Tampa, I live in Miami, and we’re continuing to build our relationship. But the goal is, by this time next year, we’ll be moving in together and getting engaged and getting married and having a kid and going on from there, so we’re right on pace.
Would you want big wedding or a small wedding?
Carlos: That’s up to her.
Janaye: Probably small. I used to want big, but at 33, my circle’s getting smaller and smaller every year.
How do you two show each other love?
Carlos: Man, for me, it’s everything. I don’t know, she just checks on me all the time. She asks about my kids and my family all the time. Just to me, it’s all the small stuff. I may be busy doing a million things, and she’ll remind me to take my supplements or to make sure I’m doing something that’s going to help my health, or whatever the case may be. Honestly, even holding me accountable, just something as small as making sure that I’m checking off the boxes on my own personal goals. She checks on me for stuff like that. That means a lot to me. That’s another way of showing me how much he loves me.
Janaye: I think for me with him, it’s just getting time with him and just quality time spent. That means a lot to me. And just doing nice little things, like I said. He’s extremely thoughtful and caring and spontaneous. I love that about him. I love when he does things like that.
Carlos, what was it like introducing Janaye to your kids?
Carlos: She’s met two out of my four. My twins are busier than I am. They just got to the campus at Duke. But she’s met my daughter, spent some quality time with my daughter, Bloom, and met my older son, Carmani, and spent some quality time with him, too. It’s interesting. When we went to go see Carmani, the very first time, we went to his apartment. He’s a sophomore in college, and he texts me later on that night. He goes, “Dad, she’s great. You got to lock in. That’s a good one right there.” That was maybe a month or two after the show wrapped, maybe October. The kids have really taken to her, and my daughter just loves hanging out with her.
