Book to Screen
Netflix Lassos Elsie Silver’s ‘Chestnut Springs’ for TV Series: Everything We Know So Far

It’s a good time to be Elsie Silver. The author has not one but two adaptations in the works. Only a few months after Prime Video got its hands on Silver’s Rose Hill series, Variety reported that Netflix snapped up Chestnut Springs. Buckle up for some swoonworthy small-town romance!
“This has got to be the ultimate surreal, pinch-me moment,” Silver wrote on Instagram when the Chestnut Springs news dropped. “A dream come true in every way that I get to be an Executive Producer on a TV show adapted from the books I’ve written. Keeping this secret has been a true challenge, but now we can all bask in the anticipation together.”
“Bask in the anticipation” is right! We can’t wait for the ranch-set series to make its way to the screen, and we have high hopes for it, considering that Netflix is behind the tonally similar Virgin River and Ransom Canyon. So, what information has been revealed so far about Chestnut Springs Season 1? Read on for all of the latest updates on the release date, casting, and more.
When does Chestnut Springs Season 1 come out?
Hold your horses, Chestnut Springs. The adaptation was only announced on September 11, so there’s no confirmed premiere date yet. However, we do know that the show has been in development for a while, which could mean that it won’t take ages for filming to start.
“The cat is fiiiiinally out of the bag,” Silver wrote in her Instagram post. “We’ve been sitting on this for over a year but I’m over-the-moon excited to share that a screen adaptation of Chestnut Springs is in the works!”
Who’s been cast in Chestnut Springs Season 1?
Silver anticipated this question in her Instagram announcement. “And before you ask, no one has been cast yet,” she said. “But any and all news will come directly from my official accounts. So take a deep breath and don’t believe everything you read on the internet.”
Who’s making Chestnut Springs?
Beyond Silver, the executive producing team includes the prolific Shawn Levy, who’s known directing Deadpool & Wolverine, Free Guy, and executive producing Stranger Things. He owns the production company 21 Laps Entertainment, which has a TV overall deal with Netflix.
Hannah Schneider, who produced Netflix’s The Waterfront, will adapt the books for the screen.
What will Chestnut Springs Season 1 be about?
There are five books in the Chestnut Springs series: Flawless, Heartless, Powerless, Reckless, and Hopeless. They all take place in a western town in the Canadian Rockies. Three of the books follow different Eaton brothers on their family ranch. The remaining two books’ leads aren’t in the family, but their lives are all connected. Expect plenty of emotional moments (and spice) as they find love.
Season 1 will likely follow Flawless, Rhett Eaton’s story. He’s a professional bull rider who finds himself in a PR crisis. To clean up his image, Rhett’s agent puts his wisecracking daughter, Summer, in charge of supervising him. Rhett’s ready to go all in, but Summer tries to push him away. He’s not going down without a fight, of course.
Some fans on Reddit suspect that the show might pull a Bridgerton move and overlap the plots and timelines of all the books. Regardless, we’re excited to see how Chestnut Springs translates to TV.
