‘Love Island Games’: What Are Heartbreakers? The Season 2 Twist, Explained
Love Island Games is already keeping the contestants — and viewers — on their toes. Only one episode has aired so far, but it’s already delivered multiple twists, including the “Heartbreakers.” We’re here for it!
The most major, of course, is that the prize has been upped from $100,000 to a quarter of a million dollars. But toward the end of Episode 1, the show made a major change to the format of the game. Charlie (Love Island USA Season 7 alum) and Solene (France Season 2) arrived to shake things up for the coupled up Islanders, but not in the typical bombshell fashion.
We immediately clocked that they were wearing broken-heart necklaces, and it turns out, they have a very interesting meaning for the contestants. Read on for everything we know about the “Heartbreakers” twist.
What are “Heartbreakers” in Love Island Games?
Instead of having two bombshells enter the villa at the end of Episode 1 — which is what happened in Season 1 — Charlie and Solene were labeled Heartbreakers.
Host Ariana Madix explained that they were going to pass on the necklaces to two of the main Islanders, forcing them out of their couples and making them vulnerable to elimination. “Nobody wants these necklaces,” Ariana warned. “Not only do they mean you’re single, they also mean that your chance at a quarter of a million dollars is on the line.”
Once Charlie and Solene put the necklaces on Josh (USA Season 3) and Lucinda (UK Season 7), Ariana gave the newly “heartbroken” Islanders a deadline. “Over the next two days, there will be chances to pass the necklace to another Islander, and I suggest you do your best to take those chances.”
Why? In 48 hours, the contestants with the necklaces on will be vulnerable, and the first dumping will occur. Ariana left on that ominous note, providing no further details. We have so many questions! Luckily, we got a little preview of what’s to come in the next episode.
Lucinda got a text saying, “Win and you give them your necklace, lose and you remain at risk.” Looks like the Heartbreakers are going to have to battle it out to stay in the villa!
