Keanu Reeves may headline blockbuster movies and Broadway plays, but the news has been more focused on his personal life lately.
Rumors have started to swirl (again) that the John Wick actor married his girlfriend, Alexandra Grant. Days after speculation began to ramp up, we finally have an answer about Reeves and his longtime love, after the two appeared on the red carpet of Reeve’s new movie, Good Fortune. The couple packed held hands, shared a few kisses, and set the record straight about their relationship status.

Is Keanu Reeves married?
Wedding bells aren’t ringing for Reeves just yet. First, the actor’s publicist refuted the rumors to E! News, and the actor addressed it directly on October 13. “Well, that wasn’t the first time,” he joked to E!. “We’ve been going out for a long time.”
Reeves’ comments come after Grant herself spoke out on the speculation, which the actor praised his girlfriend for. “People did a lot of nice messages and stuff, but Alexandra just did a wonderful [job] addressing. Like, ‘Thank you, but here’s the reality.'”
On September 24, Grant shared a photo of herself kissing Reeves, with a Roden Crater art installation as their backdrop, via Instagram. “This is a real photo. Not an engagement photo or an AI wedding announcement… simply a kiss!” she captioned the post. “I’m sharing it here to say thank you to everyone for the congratulations on our wedding. Except we didn’t get married. Good news is much needed these days, but it’s still fake news, so be careful out there!”
The rumor began when Radar Online reported that the couple held a “very intimate and very discreet” wedding in Europe this summer. “Keanu and Alexandra value their privacy, so keeping it a quiet secret fits them perfectly,” the outlet reported. Turns out, the wedding never happened!
Who is Alexandra Grant?
Like her beau, Grant is involved in the arts. She works in the visual arts, exploring the use of text and language in painting, drawing, sculpture, film, and photography. Per her website, Grant “probes ideas of translation, identity, dis/location, and social responsibility.” She lists Reeves as one of her collaborators. In fact, that’s how their relationship began. She’s participated in exhibitions since 1999, according to her resume. Several years earlier, Grant earned a bachelor’s degree in History and Studio Art from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, and in 2000, she followed it up with a master’s degree in Drawing and Painting from the California College of Arts and Crafts.
Although she now lives and works in Los Angeles and Berlin, a portion of Grant’s childhood was spent in Mexico, France, and Spain. “I grew up in part in Mexico City, Washington, D.C., and Paris, moving between languages and cultures,” she explained to LA Weekly in 2019. “Los Angeles felt like home from the moment I first arrived in 1995, especially the diversity of people, idioms, foods, and plants (like jacaranda and bougainvillea).”
The artist also runs the grantLOVE project, which raises funds for arts-based nonprofits, and X Artists’ Books, a publishing house specializing in artist-centered books. Furthermore, she has taught at several colleges, including the ArtCenter College of Design and California State University, Northridge.
How long have Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant been together?
The pair made their romance public on a red carpet in 2019, but they had been friends since at least 2011. That’s the year Grant surprised her future boyfriend with a book called Ode to Happiness. It consists of Reeves’ writing and Grant’s illustrations.
“All our friends sitting in the room got the giggles when I gave it to him — they said, ‘Please publish it!’ So that’s how we got into publishing,” Grant told Vogue in 2020. She would go on to put out another book called Shadows, which was made up of photographs of Reeves. At the time of its publication in 2016, the LA Times said Reeves was Grant’s “longtime friend.”
A source told People that the couple officially started dating in early 2019.

Reeves has been mostly tight-lipped about his relationship, although he has provided a few brief anecdotes over the years. Recently, the actor told People that his girlfriend is the more creative of the two. Grant has been a bit more outspoken about their love, but mostly in a professional context. After all, Reeves and Grant have a creative connection as well as a creative one.
“What I love about Keanu and our exchange is that we’re pushing each other to build new roads,” Grant told People. “He’s such an inspiration to me. He’s so creative, he’s so kind. He works so hard.”
She continued, “My work is much more of a private performance, but I have a text that I interpret in the studio into a painting, into an object. He takes the text in private and then turns it into a performance in public. There’s a relationship. We’re both at the heart readers and researchers. We both care about people and we care about characters.”
In 2020, she told Vogue that nearly everyone in her circle called her when the news came out that she was dating Reeves. “But the question I’ve been asking in all of this is: ‘What is the opportunity for good?’” she added.
The magazine also asked if Grant was interested in marriage, but the artist didn’t give a straight answer. “Love at every level is deeply important to my identity,” she said. “How’s that for dodging the question? I do not believe that isolation is the way. There is a period of isolation that I do as a painter, but I deeply value the experience of being in relationships.”
