Soap star Scott Clifton celebrated girlfriend Elle Anderson’s birthday with a touching message about his love. The Bold and the Beautiful star gave insight into what’s been happening in his relationship recently.

It’s been almost two years since Clifton and Anderson went public with their romance. The Daytime Emmy winner has never been shy about showing off his love for his significant other, and his latest message is a beautiful tribute to Anderson’s strength during difficult times.

“Last week was hard. When it rains it pours, and September 19th just happened to be the eye of the storm,” Clifton began. “You had confided in me early on that birthdays are important to you, like mile-markers on a road trip you hope to remember forever. You have unwittingly trained everyone you love to brace for the mile-high tsunami that is your affection on the day they were born. Some mornings I wake up to find you quietly celebrating the birthday of a loved one who is no longer alive to celebrate it themselves. At your core, you are a giver: you give when you work; you give when you play; you give when you love; you even give when you grieve.”

Without getting into the details, Clifton acknowledged that “every year, on the anniversary of your own birth, the Universe seems to create some crisis to solve, some loss to mourn, some wound to nurse, or some soul to save—as if to say, ‘Even your day isn’t really your day.'”

The General Hospital alum admitted that he would “complain” and throw himself a “decadent little pity party,” but not Anderson. “You just… do the next thing. You dust yourself off and take one more step forward,” he said.

Clifton continued, “I have learned from you how to suffer well. As virtues go, it may not appear on anyone’s wishlist, but grace is an art that takes practice and commitment. It takes wisdom, borne of experience, borne of time. And my god, the miracles you’ve performed with that time, my Saint. Indeed, last week was hard. But I can’t think of a more meaningful glimpse into the blessing that was your birth. You never stop getting better and better, and I’ll love you eternally for it.”

Anderson sweetly responded to Clifton’s message, “Only you could turn my birthday into poetry 🥰 Thank you for holding my heart so tenderly, for seeing me so clearly, and for loving me in ways that make every day feel like a celebration. I love and adore you .”

Earlier this summer, Anderson underwent surgery to correct an injury she sustained in a car accident. She wrote that doctors “saved my life and ability to walk.”
