Love Island Games Season 2’s Chris Seeley and Kay Kay Gray may have gone home without the $250,000 winnings, but they still had each other after Episode 8’s brutal double elimination.

When they were still in the running, the couple didn’t commit to an official relationship, but Chris did say upon their exit that it wasn’t the end for him and Kay Kay. Swooon caught up with the reality stars to discuss why they were drawn to each other, their post-villa relationship status, and where they see things going from here.

Though they each had conversations with other contestants in the villa — Kay Kay shared a kiss with Tyrique Hyde, and Chris expressed an interest in Nicola Gauci Borda-Warr — they remained committed to each other since coupling up on Day 1. They were interested in each other based on what they’d already seen of each other during their respective seasons of Love Island USA. (Season 5 for Kay Kay and Season 7 for Chris.)

“Aside from her beauty, of course, I just liked who she was as a woman in general,” Chris said in a joint interview with Kay Kay. “I saw she was like a ride or die type of thing, like, no matter what adversity she faced, and like the bulls**t she dealt with, I feel like she’s stood ten toes on the person that she wanted, even though she could have explored her options and left him behind.”

Chris was referring to Kay Kay leaving Season 5 early, when her now-ex Keenan Anunay was dumped from the island. “And although, it may not have been the best decision for her going forward, I feel like she learned a lot and her just being true to herself and being loyal was a huge turn on for me,” Chris explained. “And ’cause, you know, you don’t really find that nowadays in a woman like that. Women are so quick to just go on to the next, but she truly saw the best in him and wanted it to work. And I admired that.”

As for Kay Kay, Chris caught her eye as soon as he entered as a Casa Amor boy in Season 7. “He stood up to his own boundaries, and I thought that was attractive because there’s so many yikes men in the world that are just like, ‘Yes, I’ll just do whatever,’ so you can shut up. But I respect the fact that he stood on his boundaries and communicated himself well.”

As they got closer in the villa, they both wound up surprising each other with the goofy sides of their personalities. “I feel like he was really shy in the beginning, showing me his personality because other people were telling me, like, ‘Oh, Chris is so funny. I was like, this Chris? Because he didn’t make me laugh not one time,” Kay Kay said, laughing.

Now that they’re out of the competition, Kay Kay said they’re still having a good time getting to know each other. “It’s comforting knowing we can go at our own pace, nobody’s forcing us or pressuring us to get closer or there’s just not so much intensity around it,” she added. “We can just do it how we want to do it, how we’re comfortable.”

The next battle ahead, Chris explained, is going into the real world together. “I think now that we’ve gone away from that mindset being in the games, we kind of can just focus on each other,” he said. “But I’m honestly excited for what’s to come. I think we have a lot to look forward to, and a lot of time to get to get to know each other still and this connection.”

With the two living a few states apart — Chris is based in Los Angeles, while Kay Kay is in Dallas — are they planning on trying long distance? Just a day or so out of the villa, they hadn’t touched base on that yet. They’re prioritizing getting know each other off-camera.

“I think once we figure all that out and figure out if we even really, really like each other to a point where we are willing to do that, then we’ll focus more on that and see what’s best going forward and determine whether I’ll be spending some time in Dallas versus her in LA,” Chris said.

“Nothing to hop on a flight,” Kay Kay quipped.
