After nearly two decades together, country singer Keith Urban and actress Nicole Kidman have split. On September 30, the Babygirl actress filed for divorce from the country singer, per People.
A day earlier, TMZ reported that multiple sources close to the couple confirmed they have been living separately “since the beginning of summer.” Their shocking breakup comes 19 years after Kidman married The Road star back in 2006.
So, what happened between the Hollywood power couple? Why did they split? Let’s break down what we know so far.
Why did Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban split?
According to TMZ, the couple’s split was one-sided. “Nicole did not want the separation and has been trying to save the marriage,” the outlet reported. Kidman and Urban have yet to disclose publicly what happened to cause their divorce.
The outlet also reported that sources close to the actress believe “all the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman. Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it.” However, no one knows the official timeline of Urban’s alleged new relationship, so it could have been after he separated from Kidman.
“[Nicole] didn’t want this,” a source told People. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.” The source added, “Nicole’s sister [Antonia] has been a rock and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another.” The actress feels “very betrayed” and “hurt” over her split with Urban.

The couple was last seen in public together in June 2025 at the FIFA Club World Cup in Nashville, Tennessee. On June 25, Kidman celebrated her and Urban’s anniversary. “Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️ @KeithUrban,” she captioned the Instagram photo.
Back in 2022, Kidman gushed over how grateful she was for Urban. “I met him later in life, and it’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” she said on CBS Sunday Mornings. “That man is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

On September 30, a day after their split was revealed, Kidman filed for divorce from Urban. She listed their date of separation as the date of filing and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
Kidman, who recently wrapped Practical Magic 2, has reportedly been living with their kids in Nashville after Urban moved out of the family home. Those in Urban’s camp felt their “split was kind of inevitable,” and it “really hasn’t been a secret” that they’ve been living separately, People reported.
Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001.
Do Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have kids?
Kidman and Urban share two children, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 17, and Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, 14. TMZ says Kidman has been “holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone.”
Since the former couple has minor children, a custody agreement is in place. According to TMZ, the girls will spend 306 days with their mom and 59 days with their dad. All major decisions involving their daughters, including education and health care, will be made together.
Per court documents, Kidman wants to remain the “primary residential parent of the minor children.” Both parties waived any spousal support and child support. However, there is a clause stating that Urban has prepaid “child support obligations,” and they will retain their own assets, which suggests that they signed a prenuptial agreement when they got married.
