The author is also a stepmom to Ireland Baldwin, her husband’s daughter from his previous relationship with Kim Basinger. Through Ireland, Hilaria is also a grandmother to granddaughter Holland, born in May 2023.

Did Hilaria Baldwin give birth to all 7 children?

Hilaria gave birth to six of her children. She and Alec welcomed Marilu via surrogate just five months after Edu was born.

After initially keeping quiet about her decision to have two babies back-to-back and use a surrogate for one, Hilaria explained that she opted to do so following a miscarriage.

“People told me, ‘You’re older now. You’re 35,’ which now I know is a whole load of everything, but at the time, I bought it,” she told Romper, adding that she went on to try IVF, which produced two viable embryos. After a pregnancy loss, she got pregnant naturally, but still had one embryo left from IVF.

“I was afraid to carry it, but I didn’t want to leave it frozen,” Hilaria explained. “I felt that for some reason, my body rejected an IVF experience [and so it would again]. I know that sounds irrational, but sometimes when we are going through this, we can have feelings that might not always make sense.”

So, she had the embryo implanted in a surrogate instead and was then able to breastfeed both Marilu and Edu at the same time.

How many miscarriages did Hilaria Baldwin have?

Hilaria had back-to-back miscarriages in 2019. This came after she had “some chemical pregnancies scattered” before her fourth child.

In April 2019, Hilaria had a miscarriage after the baby’s “heartbeat wasn’t good” from the beginning of the pregnancy. At about nine weeks, there was no longer a heartbeat, she later revealed. That’s when she decided to undergo IVF. She had her embryo implanted at the end of summer 2019 and experienced a pregnancy loss that November.

“Right before the heartbeat, I started having this crazy, crazy cramping and a lot of bleeding,” she shared. “We were sure that I was miscarrying, and I was thinking, ‘I’ve come so far.'” However, the doctor assured her there was a heartbeat. At her 16-week appointment, though, she learned she had lost the baby.

“We are very sad to share that today we learned that our baby passed away at 4 months,” Hilaria shared on Instagram at the time. “We also want you to know that even though we are not ok right now, we will be. We are so lucky with our 4 healthy babies—and we will never lose sight of this.”
