They’re not engaged (yet), but the couple is excited about what the future holds. “You know what’s nice about being in your 60s and going through life, you get to write your own love story — and we’re on the same page,” Peg said during After the Final Rose. “That’s a love story the way that we get to do it, and to continue to grow our love, continue to spend time with our families, and that’s the nice part about being in our 60s in your golden years is being able to do what you want to with that connection you have with someone.”
Peg’s zest for life caught Mel’s eye from the beginning. Over the course of Season 2, Mel and Peg developed a deep connection. Peg had all the qualities Mel wanted in a potential wife. “Peg is perfect for me,” Mel said on the show. “She’s my style…She’s full of joy, she’s fun, and she’s tough, too. All those things together make her who she is, and that’s why I like her. I’m all in on Peg. She has that charisma, and that passion, that love for life, and it’s captivating.”

Peg was diagnosed with heart disease in 2021 when she was 58, per an article in the Las Vegas Review Journal. Her diagnosis led to a legal battle, as Peg could no longer perform her duties as a firefighter and applied for permanent disability. Her request was denied.
However, the Nevada Court of Appeals ruled in her favor in 2025, allowing for retired firefighters, police officers, and arson investigators who had 20 years of service by June 8, 2015, to receive disability compensation.
