‘Shadow & Bone’ Star Freddy Carter & Wife Caroline Ford Expecting First Child

Freddy Carter is going to be a dad! The Shadow and Bone star and his actress wife, Caroline Ford, have shared that they’re expecting their first child together.
“It’s been a pretty big year over here,” Ford wrote underneath her pregnancy reveal on Sunday, October 12. In the Instagram post, the Carnival Row actress shows off her baby bump, with one hand on her hip and the other cradling her belly. Carter, she noted, was the one to capture the moment on camera.
Shadow and Bone fans flocked to the comments to offer their congratulations to the couple, and several stars from Carter’s Netflix series got in on the action, too. Amita Suman and Danielle Galligan — whose characters were part of Kaz Brekker’s (Carter) criminal crew — added some heart-eyes emojis underneath Ford’s post. “🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 ,” commented Ben Barnes, who appeared as the villainous Darkling in the show.

The couple’s life update comes almost a decade after Carter and Ford met on the set of Free Rein. Carter played a stable-boy-turned-duke named Pin during the show’s three-season run, while Ford took on the recurring role of horse trainer Sam. The first season aired in 2017, the same year that the couple confirmed their relationship on social media.
Since their showmance, the actors haven’t worked together on another project. “I think that’s for the best, you know, we just keep that separate,” Carter told Tatler in 2023.
The 32-year-old actor and his wife haven’t spoken much about their relationship since they got together, though Carter has given his Instagram followers glimpses into his personal life. Carter will occasionally post snapshots of Ford, usually on her birthday, and Ford has done the same for her husband. In fact, it was Ford who shared the news that they’d tied the knot in December 2022, uploading several black-and-white images of their special day on Instagram.
In his Tatler interview, Carter didn’t offer too many details about his wedding, though he did note that “it was amazing” and “went too fast” and consisted of “all the clichés of ‘best day of your life.'” He also explained that he and his wife, who creates mixed media pieces, share a love of art. Carter tried his hand at his wife’s craft during the pandemic, but “it went terribly.” He added, “I did it for one day and found it too frustrating… now, I leave all the painting to her.”
