Creator Robert Kirkman describes Invincible as an “escalating” show, but even as the threats grow more dire and the battles turn deadlier, the superhero series always makes time for romance. That won’t change in the upcoming Season 4, which finds Mark (Steven Yeun) and Eve’s (Gillian Jacobs) relationship stronger than ever, according to Kirkman.
Ahead of its March 2026 premiere on Prime Video, Kirkman and Jacobs sat down with Swooon at New York Comic Con to discuss all things Season 4 — aka the “most intense season yet.”
By the end of Season 3, they survived the Invincible War and Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the unhinged, ultra-powerful Viltrumite warrior tasked with taking Mark out. At Rex’s (Jason Mantzoukas) funeral in the finale, Mark expresses his relief that Eve’s still alive and safe, after he thought Conquest killed her for good. The last time we see them together in Season 3, the couple goes home and shares an intimate moment.
However, it’s not the last we see of Mark. He has a conversation with his brother, Oliver (Lincoln Bodin), after being at odds with him all season. They’re now on the same page: The next time someone comes after his loved ones, Mark won’t hesitate to kill them. What will Eve think of Mark’s new mindset, now that he’s heading towards a darker path?
“I think that Eve and the important people in his life are always grappling with Mark and have opinions on how he should be in the world and what kind of superhero he should be,” Jacobs teased. “So I think that Eve’s going to have feelings. She loves Mark.” (“Is that an approved answer?” she asked Kirkman, who doubles as the show’s executive producer and head writer.)

Jacobs wasn’t particularly shocked by any of the events of Season 4 — “insane things happen in every episode” — but she did say that she’s a fan of the evolution that Eve has and will continue to undergo. “I also love the emotional complexity of the dynamics between the characters on the show, that we balance the action with really great scenes of relationship,” she said, “and so to have this evolving relationship between Invincible and Adam Eve is so fun to play.”
The actress loves Mark and Eve’s dynamic because, despite how much she “clearly loves him,” Eve isn’t afraid to call Mark out when he’s being stupid. “And I love that they’re both going from being teenagers to adults together,” she added. “I like when it’s silly. I like when it’s fun. I like when it’s awkward. And that I like that she has potentially stronger powers than him.” (Kirkman corrected Jacobs, clarifying that Eve “definitively” is stronger than Mark.)
So far, Invincible has made a point to balance scenes of intimacy, particularly when it comes to Eve and Mark, with others of immense scale. Kirkman says that the superhero couple’s human moments are what make the larger stakes matter. “And as their lives have become more intertwined, as they’ve gotten into a real relationship, the events of Season 4 are coming at a time when they are at their closest,” he elaborated.
“And that’s really going to make what happens in Season 4 and the conflict that’s the center of it way more heightened because you really feel for these characters, and you want them to be happy, and you want them to be together, and they aren’t going to be,” Kirkman continued, teasing a troublesome road ahead for Eve and Mark.
Jacobs, who hasn’t read ahead in the comic since she signed onto the show, widened her eyes. “What?” she asked. “I’m listening.” In response, all Kirkman offered was, “We’ll see.”
