Why Did Madison Maidenberg & Joe Ferrucci Split on ‘Love Is Blind’? A Full Breakdown

[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for Love Is Blind Season 9 Episodes 10-11.]
Turns out the Love Is Blind Season 9 “Runaway Groom” is none other than Joe Ferrucci.
Every season of Love Is Blind, the contestants gather with Nick Lachey, Vanessa Lachey, and their loved ones to pick out their wedding dresses and tuxes. This season, as Madison Maidenberg twirled in a Bridgerton–style gown, her fiancé, Joe, had a complete meltdown, leaving his friends Jonfrey and Issac at the tailor’s during Episode 10. At the beginning of Episode 11, Madison confirmed that Joe decided that he wanted to call the whole thing off.
Below, you can find everything you need to know about Joe Ferrucci and Madison Maidenberg’s split, from why Joe couldn’t make it to their wedding day to what Madison would have told Joe at the altar.
Why did Joe walk out of his tux fitting?
At the tux fitting, Joe revealed that while most of the guys said they were 100% sure they would say “I do” at the altar, he overthinks everything. He admitted, “It takes a little bit of time for me to come to a rational thought.” As he tried on a tie, his friends asked him questions about the wedding, causing him to turn down trying on a pair of pants for size and abruptly go change.
Talking directly to the camera, he revealed, “You’re here to get suited up, you know? And, um, everything is put into real life.” Then, he told production, “Let’s do this tomorrow. I gotta get the f**k out of here. I can’t do this.” As the rest of the guys watched Joe get in his truck to leave mid-filming, Episode 10 concluded with “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter, one of the most iconic needle drops of the whole season.

Why did Joe and Madison split?
Episode 11 began with Madison crying while telling her mom on the phone, “Joe’s gone. Joe left.” As he returned, she revealed, “Joe said, after his tux fitting, like, he had a total breakdown. He felt completely detached.” Ultimately, he told her that he would say no at the altar, so there was no reason to move forward in the experiment together.
Sitting down with Madison, Joe confessed, “I was wanting to follow and keep going as long as I could.” While he still loved her, Joe knew that she was not the right person for him. As Joe couldn’t give her a firm reason why he didn’t want to be with her, Madison told him, “It is interesting to me that this is on the heels of us running into all the singles. It’s just pretty embarrassing for me.” However, he told her that there was “absolutely not” someone else that he had feelings for.
Would Madison have said ‘I do’ at the altar?
While Madison tried on wedding dresses, she revealed that she was planning on saying yes at the altar, committing herself to a lifetime with Joe. She admitted, “I literally visualize being at the altar, and me saying yes, and him saying yes.” While that could have changed in the few days before their wedding, it’s clear that Madison was all in. Alternatively, Joe told viewers that if he had gone through with it, he would have been “miserable.”
During an exclusive interview with Swooon, Madison described her relationship with Joe as “consistently inconsistent.” At the time, it appeared that he was into her off-camera, but he became a completely different person on-camera. According to her, at one point during the process, she sat down with him to ask point-blank, “Are you trying to make it look like you don’t like me on camera?” You can check out our full interview with Madison here.
