Sharing mutual friends and running in similar circles, Turner describes barely missing his now-fiancée a few times before everything lined up. “There’s one where she went to a party, and then I went to a party, but I arrived minutes after she left. I arrived at 2 in the morning and she left at 1:45 — she checked her Uber and I checked a photo I’d taken opposite my friend’s house when I arrived,” he said. “There were loads of things like that, and then, when we were both able to, we were both single and whatever, I just thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.”
When one of said mutual friends’ birthdays rolled around, they met over drinks before the party. Sitting next to each other, Turner and Lipa realized that not only were they reading the same book, but they both had just finished the first chapter. “I said, ‘So we’re on the same page,’” Turner said with a grin. “In the movie version of it, I look up to the sky and I’m like, ‘I hear you. I understand. The signs are loud, don’t worry.’ And that was really the first [moment].”

The novel is a historical fiction about the life of Andrew Bevel, an early twentieth-century Wall Street tycoon, and his wife, Mildred. The 2022 novel deals with the mystery around how they acquired their fortune, as different characters provide conflicting details about the couple.

It’s unclear when exactly Turner and Lipa’s meet-cute took place, but the two first sparked dating rumors in January 2024. Lipa was the actor’s date to the Masters of the Air premiere after-party.
