‘Boots’: Who Should Be Cope’s Love Interest in a Potential Season 2? (POLL)

Jack Kay, Miles Heizer, and Kieron Moore in 'Boots'
Netflix

Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer) doesn’t really get a full-fledged romance in Boots because he is trying to make it through training and keep his sexuality under the radar. Regardless, that hasn’t stopped us from thinking about who Cope’s love interest should be down the line, should Netflix pick up the military drama for a second season.

Let’s survey the options first. At first, the show leads us to believe that there might be something between Cope and his fellow recruit, Isaiah Nash (Dominic Goodman). Cope thinks that Nash is making eyes at him from the outset. They become fast friends, and amidst all of the cutthroat chaos of boot camp, Nash has Cameron’s back. They even have some flirty interactions and a heart-to-heart about their complicated family situations.

Then, it all comes crashing down in Episode 4, when Nash’s diary is found and read out loud to the entire platoon. He doesn’t spare anyone from his insults — including Cameron, whom he calls a homophobic slur. Nash manages to smooth things over with everyone in the end, but we can’t help but wonder if it means the end of a potential Cope-Nash romance for good. Was Cope simply misinterpreting their interactions?

On the other hand, there’s no doubt about Jones’ (Jack Kay) interest in Cameron. Once they become bunkmates, Jones’ outright flirty behavior leads to the two confessing to each other that they’re gay. Jones, being the more experienced of the two, takes Cameron under his wing and becomes his confidant. Even though Jones betrays Cameron in the ring in Episode 7 — because he made a deal with Sgt. Sullivan (Max Parker) to be granted a medical discharge — it’s water under the bridge by the end of the season.

In fact, it seems like Jones might have gotten his wish in the finale, though there’s no way to know for sure. Jones sleepwalks into the woods, which leads to him getting injured and stranded before Cope and Sullivan find him. Cope and his bunkmate have an amicable parting, with the latter joking that he’ll see him in hell. Jones doesn’t complete the Crucible and graduate training, so their romance doesn’t get a chance to get off the ground, unless maybe Jones doesn’t get his medical discharge after all.

Last but not least, we’d be remiss not to throw in one potential romance into the mix. Some fans have started shipping Slovacek (Kieron Moore) with Cope, and we have to admit that we can see the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers vision, far-fetched as it may seem right now. Slovacek bullies Cope from the first day on, and when Cope stands up for himself by throwing a bucket of pee on Slovacek, it adds fuel to the fire. After graduation, the two shake hands, with Slovacek admiring how Cope saved Jones.

Do you want to see Cope end up with Nash, Jones, or Slovacek in a potential Season 2? Or would you rather it be none of the above, and the show has Cope meet someone new? After all, Cope will likely be deployed soon, since the finale ends on George H.W. Bush announcing that the U.S. is going to war with Iraq. Taking that under consideration, maybe you’re of the opinion that Cope shouldn’t have any love interest at all. Either way, let us know in the poll below!
