‘Saturn Return’: All About Rachel Brosnahan, Will Poulter & Charles Melton’s Romantic Drama

Saturn Return caught our attention as soon as we learned that Rachel Brosnahan, Will Poulter, and Charles Melton were attached to star. But now that we also know that it’s a decade-spanning romantic drama, helmed by the director of 2023’s Sing Sing? We’re counting down the days until the movie hits screens.

Since set photos of the Saturn Return actors have flooded our social media feed, we thought it was about time that we did a deep dive into the production. When does Saturn Return come out, and who else is in the cast, for that matter? What about that decade-long plot that we mentioned? Get all of the answers below.

When is Saturn Return coming out?

We hate to break it to you, but Saturn Return doesn’t have a release date yet. Trust us, we’re as impatient as you are! But there is some good news: As you might have already guessed from the set photos, production has officially kicked off in Chicago. With filming underway in October 2025, it’ll likely be at least a year before the movie arrives on Netflix.

What is Saturn Return about?

According to Tudum, the movie is a “Chicago-set romance exploring the themes of love, loss, and life’s unexpected turns in the 10 years between the aspirational young love of college and the complicated realities of adulthood.”

The description fits the title: “Saturn Return” refers to the astrological phenomenon when Saturn circles back to the same position it was at your birth. Per Vogue, it takes 29 years for Saturn to cycle through all 12 zodiac signs and reach that position. “It’s often a period where you’re reevaluating certain aspects of your life, and figuring out who and what you want to commit to moving forward,” astrologer Alice Bell writes.

That one sentence is about all that Tudum has to offer in the way of plot details, but we did some extra digging and discovered that Saturn Return made the Black List, an annual survey of the most-liked, unproduced movie screenplays, in 2024. Deadline shared a more specific logline: “Eve and Anders dated for a decade. Now, Eve is going to see Anders for the first time in years… at his dad’s funeral. Together, they confront their shared past and the infinite nature of love, even after it dies.”

Script Shadow also reviewed the screenplay earlier this month, mentioning that Eve and Anders’ “good friend Lincoln” is also involved in the story. “Eve is a nerd who doesn’t want to talk to anybody and only wants to study. Anders is, conversely, determined to network the hell out of the school so he can fulfill his dreams of becoming insanely rich. And Lincoln is a cool jock who carpe diems every day,” they wrote.

Who is in the Saturn Return cast?

Brosnahan, Poulter, and Melton’s exact characters haven’t been revealed yet, but we do know that they’re joined by David Morse (The Chair), Jean Yoon (Kim’s Convenience), and Kim Dickens (The Good Nurse).

“This project has attracted the most incredible cast and crew, who feel almost cosmically drawn to be part of this. Led by Rachel Brosnahan, Charles Melton, and Will Poulter, these actors are so bonded and delightful to be around,” director Greg Kwedar told Tudum. “Supported by a dream team of actors in Jean Yoon, David Morse, and Kim Dickens, this is an ensemble that offers up a rich tapestry of what it means to be part of a family.”

Who is making Saturn Return?

Kwedar, who was nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award for Sing Sing, doubles as Saturn Return‘s producer. Plan B and Emily Wolfe are also producing.

Gaelyn Golde, who worked on Hulu’s Chad Powers, wrote the script, which was revised by Kwedar and Clint Bentley. The latter is the director of Netflix’s upcoming Train Dreams, which the duo also cowrote together.
