Jackie Tohn is a scene stealer in Nobody Wants This as Noah (Adam Brody)’s sister-in-law, Esther. Nobody Wants This is Netflix’s biggest rom-com hit, but how well does the show’s star know romance movies and shows?
In honor of Season 2’s arrival on Netflix, we tested Tohn’s knowledge of some of our favorite swoonworthy and most iconic quotes. Tohn immediately warned us that she “probably” wouldn’t know any. Watch the video above to see if she’s right.
Though the actress thought this quote, “We aren’t here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect. Not us. Not us! We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts and love the wrong people and die,” was from Notting Hill, she brightened up when she learned it was from the classic Moonstruck. Her team even encouraged her to deliver the lines like Nicolas Cage. And she did!
She quickly got Brokeback Mountain correct. “I watched that again recently, and everyone was a kid. I was like, ‘Oh my god. These people are young, young, young people.” Several Swooon staffers made it to the theaters for the 20th anniversary re-release of Brokeback, and trust us, she’s right. Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger are babies in it.
In Nobody Wants This Season 2, Esther’s relationship with Sasha (Timothy Simons) was on the rocks. At the end of the season, Esther and Sasha decided to split.
Could this mean Sasha and Morgan (Justine Lupe) will finally explore that chemistry that has fans speculating and shipping? When we last spoke to Tohn, she joked, “No, I do not want Morgan and Sasha to explore that further. I am married to the man and I love him and he loves me, and Morgan can take a hike.” Will this separation ultimately strengthen Esther and Sasha’s relationship? Or is this the end? We’ll have to wait and see what a potential Season 3 brings.
