What To Know

  • Don Diamont and his wife, Cindy Ambuehl, attended the 2025 Daytime Emmys together on October 17.
  • The Bold and the Beautiful star and Ambuehl have been married since 2012 and met on the set of The Young and the Restless.
  • In an interview with Swooon, Diamont says his wife should have gotten the role of Ashley Abbott she auditioned for years ago.

Nothing makes a relationship more special than one of the people in it having a special name for the other person. Case in point: The soap opera world knows actor Don Diamont, who plays Bill Spencer on The Bold and the Beautiful as Don, but his wife, Cindy Ambuehl, affectionately refers to him as “Donald.”

While the couple’s relationship is indeed special, unique, and loving, there are actually many people who call Diamont by the name “Donald.” Ambuehl told Swooon on the Daytime Emmys red carpet, “[Donald] was raised as ‘Donald.’ His family, his closest friends, all call him ‘Donald.'”

Shortening Diamont’s first name to “Don” came about, he said, when he began his career. “Modeling started with ‘Don’ Diamont,” he explained. His wife chimed in, “But anyone who is really close to him? They call him ‘Donald.'”

While Ambuehl is a top Los Angeles realtor, she’s also known for her acting, having appeared on Seinfeld, Ally McBeal, and Malcolm in the Middle. She also played as Kim on B&B in 1996, and later that year, she screen-tested with Diamont when she was auditioning for the role of Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless, when Diamont was on the top-rated soap as Brad Carlton. Talk about the ultimate soap meet-cute!

Call him biased if you will, but Diamont truly believes, as objectively as he can be, that Ambuehl was the perfect candidate for the part. “Oh, she should have gotten it,” Diamont affirmed to Swooon. “No question about that. I mean, how do I make it sound like I’m not just saying that? But I’m not. She killed it. Her look was right. Her performance was spot on.”

The potential for an onscreen romance between Brad and Ambuehl’s Ashley wasn’t meant to be (as the role went to someone else). However, the couple, who’ve been married since 2012, had a much happier ending.

So, what about Cindy makes Don (or Donald!) swoon? “There’s nothing [about her] that doesn’t make me swoon,” he responded. “Right off the bat, I can say it’s her sense of humor. She’s very funny. She makes me cry. She makes me laugh until my stomach hurts, and she is just the complete package.”

He continued, “She’s brilliant, beautiful, and funny. She’s funny, a wonderful mom, and an incredible wife. She never misses a beat a wife or a mom. She’s amazing.”

“I don’t have enough time to go through what I love about him,” Cindy gushed with a smile about her husband.

Despite their busy schedules, this Hollywood power duo makes sure that they get out on date nights. “We make that a priority, for sure,” Cindy noted.
