Laura Wright Wanted Jax & Carly To Be ‘General Hospital’s Ross and Rachel
What To Know
- Laura Wright celebrated her 20th anniversary playing Carly on General Hospital.
- In a new interview, Wright looked back at Carly’s love life, including her character’s romance with Jax.
- Carly and Jax’s relationship didn’t last, but they did have a daughter, Josslyn.
Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright) have become one of General Hospital‘s most iconic supercouples, but Carly and Jax’s (Ingo Rademacher) romance certainly didn’t disappoint. Wright and Rademacher had great chemistry from the get-go, and their relationship even led to the birth of the crown jewel of GH’s next generation: Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy).
Wright made her debut on the Port Charles-set soap on November 4, 2005, and opened up about Carly’s many loves in a new interview. Wright had a blast exploring the Carly and Jax storyline and even thought their romance had a certain Friends flair to it.
“I loved when I worked with Ingo and the Jax and Carly story,” she told TV Insider. “I thought they were so funny. We wanted them to be the Ross [David Schwimmer] and Rachel [Jennifer Aniston] of daytime television. I absolutely loved the total train wreck of Todd [Manning, Roger Howarth] and Carly. It was one of my favorites ever, and I loved working with Roger. With Sonny, I wanted it to be sexy and dark. I also love the Carly, Jason [Morgan, Steve Burton], and Sonny dynamic.”
Jax and Carly’s relationship wasn’t meant to last ultimately. In a move reminiscent of Rachel Green, Jax boarded a flight to Australia in 2021. But unlike Rachel, he didn’t get off.
Wright became GH’s permanent Carly after Shayne Lamas and Jennifer Bransford’s short tenures in 2005. Sarah Brown originated the role, and Tamara Braun took over until 2005.
Carly’s had notable love interests since Jax, but many GH fans are holding out hope that Sonny and Carly will have another go of it. “People keep wondering if they’re going to put us back together, and I get that all the time, and I just think it’s always available, but we’re not there yet,” Wright recently said on Benard’s State of Mind podcast.
