Married at First Sight is all about risk. Sometimes, the show’s experts match a couple that stays married well after the show ends. There’s also a chance their romances don’t pan out by the time the eight weeks of the experiment are up. Season 19, which dropped its final episode on November 20, did see all of its couples stay together on Decision Day, which was a first. But is that still the case a year and a half later?
One of those couples was Belynda and Chad, who counted themselves among the Austin participants who took a chance on love. The former, a 47-year-old esthetic sales consultant, said “I do” to the latter, a 54-year-old real estate agent, in Episode 3. At the reunion, Belynda and Chad revealed where they stand. Are Married at First Sight’s Belynda and Chad still together?
Belynda and Chad separated about a week after Decision Day. Belynda, who also revealed that she met someone new, cited a lack of intimacy and drinking as her reasoning for the breakup.
Further, Belynda was supposed to move into Chad’s place, but his cat was spooked by her dog when they were introduced. “He was yelling, saying the dog was being aggressive, and I just told him he’s a curious dog, and then he yelled at me and said that the dog was untrained and didn’t know how to behave,” Belynda recalled, adding that she grabbed her things and left.
They tried to address it at a crawfish boil with the rest of the cast, but Chad got angry and left. Watching the scene back during the reunion, Chad didn’t appreciate that it was brought up, but he apologized for “losing control” and wished he had handled the situation better. The scene echoed the issues Chad had with production earlier in the season. In Episode 11, Chad expressed that he was fed up with filming the show. Chad’s reaction to production reminded Belynda of her previous marriage, when her ex would “blow up.”
“[Producers] went out of their way to try to accommodate him, and that’s when I started to take steps back,” she said at the reunion. “I started to get the feeling that the way he is treating them, eventually, he’ll treat me that way. And then he did.”
What happened between Belynda and Chad on the show?
Belynda and Chad got through their honeymoon in Panama without any major hitches, and the same could be said through Episode 6, which saw them start living together. A minor disagreement came about when producers interrupted a heart-to-heart between the couple, which Chad wasn’t happy about. Belynda told her husband that she didn’t appreciate his reaction, and they worked it out. Chad said “I love you” to his wife first, and though Belynda waited to say it back, she did in Episode 7. In the end, these two couldn’t make it work.
