Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) had some of the hottest TV sex scenes ever during Scandal‘s seven-season run. Their first time? In the hotel room? Nearly too hot for TV!
Goldwyn has two daughters, Anna and Tess, with his wife, Jane Musky. Did his kids approve of the steamy scenes? Did they even watch? Anna opened up about her reaction to her father’s sexy TV moments that launched the passionate Olitz fandom.
During an interview on Sirius XM’s The Julia Cunningham Show, Anna noted that she was in college when Scandal was on the air. She admitted it was “very annoying” to have the world thirsting over her dad.
“I’m very glad that I was older,” Anna said. “We’ve talked about this. I think it would be, I feel like I know people or know of people whose parents gain great success like that and public-facing success when they’re in middle school or high school, and I think that’s very hard. I feel like by the time I was in college, I was kind of like, it was amusing to me, honestly, more than anything, and I don’t know. I’m like, ‘OK, you think my dad’s hot? Well, I have his genes, so I’m happy about that, I guess.'”
Goldwyn revealed that every time he had a love scene or kissing scene with Washington, his daughter would text him, “That is disgusting,” or “Gross.”
Anna added, “I mean, honestly, my roommates were more weirded out than I was by it, ’cause for me, I’m sort of like, it’s gross, but I’m also like, I understand the concept of being an actor, and I don’t find it, and that’s me messing with you. I don’t actually find it gross, but like my roommates who knew my dad, who had no connection to Hollywood or acting, whatever, they would watch it and be like, ‘Oh my god.’ They would turn bright red. One of them couldn’t even watch it… I think maybe that was where the grossness was coming from is I was watching my roommates turn beat red.”
In a post-Scandal world, Goldwyn and his daughter recently launched the Far From the Tree podcast, where they chat with other parent–child duos working in the same industry to explore what it’s really like being in the family business. Goldwyn is also starring as District Attorney Nicholas Baxter on Law & Order.
