What To Know

  • A Very Jonas Christmas Movie features the Jonas Brothers and their families, including Kevin’s daughters in their movie debut.
  • Cowriters and producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger exclusively shared a funny behind-the-scenes moment involving one of Kevin’s kids.
  • The film centers on the brothers mending their relationship during their journey home for the holidays.

Not only does A Very Jonas Christmas Movie mark the onscreen return of Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas, but it also marks the movie debut of their family’s youngest members.

Kevin and his wife Danielle Jonas‘ two daughters — Alena, 11, and Valentina, 9 — are set to appear alongside their famous father and uncles in the Disney+ original movie, which premieres on Friday, November 14.

“They were good. One of them came up with a really funny ad lib, and she was just, like, riffing,” cowriter and producer Isaac Aptaker exclusively told us ahead of the film’s release. “It was like being on a Judd Apatow set with a little girl. It was very funny.”

Fans will have to tune in to see what moment from Kevin’s kids left Aptaker and his fellow cowriter and producer, Elizabeth Berger, cracking up. As shown in the film’s trailers, A Very Jonas Christmas Movie will also feature appearances from Danielle, Nick’s wife, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, Malti.

“They were all so in,” Aptaker said of getting to work with the Jonas family. “That was actually our very first two days of shooting the whole movie, which was all of the stuff with their families. So, it was like, in a weird way, for us, we were like, ‘Oh, we’re, like, jumping into someone else’s family reunion and then filming it.’ It was very surreal, but everyone was so excited to be together. That family gets along miraculously well.”

He added, “And it was really cool. I know Kevin, especially, was so excited to have his daughters get to act, and they were just buzzing being there.”

Family is at the heart of A Very Jonas Christmas‘ story. The film follows Kevin, Joe, and Nick as they attempt to mend their strained brotherly relationship while facing several hilarious — and magical — speed bumps on their journey home for the holidays.

“When we first met, [the Jonas Brothers] expressed that it was really important to them that this be a movie and a viewing experience that, truly, the whole family would love watching that together, and that really included, for them, adults,” Berger shared. “They wanted this to work on an adult level and be a genuinely funny movie, and that was really important to us, too. So, I think to be able to sort of be a part of their vision and bringing it to life in a way that they felt good about was really an exciting and cool opportunity for us.”

For as excited as Kevin was to film with his kids, Berger said she’s just as excited to share the project with her own children. “I have a 2-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 6-year-old, and this was my first time really making content where I was like, ‘I would love to watch this, and my kids would love to watch this, and my dad would love to watch this with us,'” she said. “And I think that is what the brothers do so well, is they draw in audiences of every single age.”

The movie serves as a full-circle moment for the Jonas Brothers, as they got their start with Disney’s Hollywood Records before skyrocketing into fame with Disney Channel’s Camp Rock movie series and the two-season show, Jonas.

“Elizabeth and I are pretty much the same age as the guys. We have kids the same age as the guys. We’re in that same time of life,” Aptaker said of helping the brothers return to their Disney roots. “So, to get to kind of take those voices that we’re so familiar with as teenagers and help evolve them and bring them into dad mode, was really, really exciting.”
