Mel Owens‘ journey came to an end during the Wednesday, November 12, finale of The Golden Bachelor. The season concluded with the 66-year-old making a final choice between retired biomedical engineer Cindy Cullers, 60, and retired firefighter Peg Munson, 62, after fantasy suite dates.
In addition to picking who he wanted to give his final rose to, Mel also had to decide whether he was ready to propose. His sons, Lucas and Andre, flew in to offer some words of wisdom and support their dad as he made his decision.
After a tense fantasy suite date with Cindy, Mel ultimately chose Peg as the woman he wanted to be with. Cindy decided to leave Mel during their fantasy suite date after they couldn’t get on the same page. The Texas-based finalist wanted Mel to be more serious about getting engaged, but he didn’t want to set a timetable for marrying again.
Mel wanted to take his time with making that decision after his 2020 divorce from Fabiana Pimentel, his first wife and mother of his children, after nearly 18 years. Cindy was previously married to Marc Cullers, with whom she shares three daughters.
After Peg met his sons and they approved, he gave her his final rose, as well as a ring that expressed his commitment to her. Mel and Peg’s fantasy suite date went great, and they even spent the night together so they could get to know each other better without the cameras on them. Peg, a divorced single mom from Las Vegas, had the adventurous side Mel was looking for, and of course, she accepted his offer.

Unfortunately, that also meant that Cindy didn’t get her happy ending, although she realized the writing was on the wall during their fantasy suite dinner. While Cindy tried to get Mel to open up and give her clarity about where he stood with her, she struggled to get the answers she was hoping for.
“Mel is a reserved man,” she said. “He keeps things close to his chest. But it’s not the time to seize up. I’m wondering, is it me? Is it maybe he has a tighter relationship with Peg? Or if, maybe, that’s just who he is.”
After Mel and Cindy’s final date, he paid Peg a visit and let her know that “something did change” during his time with Cindy. But it wasn’t bad news. Rather, the “change” that happened was Cindy leaving and realizing they weren’t meant to be, ultimately leading to his decision to choose Peg.
