Robert Irwin and Xochitl Gomez have been the subject of romance rumors since their performance together on the November 11 episode of Dancing With the Stars. Gomez was one of six past Mirrorball trophy winners to return to the ballroom to dance with one of the stars in the running for the Season 34 title, and she was paired up with Irwin.
Days later, fans are still talking about how much they ship these two together, and Irwin reacted to the buzz while heading into rehearsal on November 13.
For the most part, he managed to sidestep the question about whether or not he and Gomez are dating, but he did throw in some praise for the actress. “We had the best time,” he gushed to a TMZ reporter. “That dance was so much fun. It was so cool to do two such distinct dances, one that was really slow and heartfelt, and then the dance with Xochitl, which was energy and fun. She’s the best. It’s been really great.”
Irwin and Gomez were paired up for a dance relay against Alix Earle and Joey Graziadei. They each had to dance a jive, with the judges ultimately choosing one winner to award two bonus points to. Irwin and Gomez were declared the winners of the relay.
Earlier in the night, Irwin and his partner, Witney Carson, earned a perfect score for their foxtrot, which they dedicated to his late father, Steve Irwin. The high scores, combined with viewer votes, helped them get voted through to next week’s Semifinals, where Irwin will be up against Earle, Whitney Leavitt, Elaine Hendrix, Jordan Chiles, and Dylan Efron.
In the Semis, the remaining six contestants will have to dance twice to songs by Prince. They’ll be performing one unlearned dance, and one previously-performed dance to show off their improvement. Irwin will be doing a Viennese waltz and a jive.
