Who Is Chris Stapleton’s Wife? Inside His Marriage to Morgane & Their Family
Not only is Chris Stapleton nominated for three awards at the CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 19, but he’s also scheduled to take the stage for two performances during the show. When he does, he’ll be joined by his wife, Morgane Stapleton, who’s been singing background and harmonies for the singer for years.
Chris and Morgane have been building a life together since they first met in 2003. Scroll down for everything to know about their relationship, family, and more.
How did Chris Stapleton meet his wife?
Chris and Morgane met in 2003 when they were both working with neighboring publishing companies.
“I kind of did stalk him a little bit,” Morgane admitted in a 2015 interview. “I was friends with his song-plugger, and I would go hang out in her office, like, every day until he would open the back door. We knew it was him coming down the hall by the way his footsteps were, but he used to wear his keys on his belt, so he would jingle. … That’s how we hung out for a long time.”
Eventually, Chris asked Morgane to write a song with him. “We tried to write a song, but I think we ended up just making out most of the night,” she laughed.
They went on to tie the knot on October 27, 2007, and have now been married for nearly 20 years.
What does Chris Stapleton’s wife do for a living?
Morgane is a singer and songwriter. In addition to singing in her husband’s band and contributing to his projects, she’s also written songs for artists including Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Kellie Pickler, and more.
“She’s been known to make me change keys on something,” Chris said in 2017. “She’ll be like, ‘Sing higher.’ I’m like, ‘Alright.’ I get lazy on keys sometimes. I’ll key it lower, that way I can sing it lower live. She won’t let me get lazy on stuff like that. She knows when I’m doing it, and nobody else does.”
Morgane is also an experienced doula. In fact, she dropped out of performing at the ACM Awards with Chris in 2021 because she had a “prior doula commitment.” Later that night, Chris revealed that the baby Morgane was assisting with was his sister-in-law’s!
Additionally, Morgane is the owner of Tennessee Turquoise Co., a shop in Franklin, Tennessee, that sells a “thoughtfully curated collection of vintage silver & turquoise,” per its website. Every purchase at the shop supports the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center.
How many kids does Chris Stapleton have?
Chris and Morgane are parents to five children. Their eldest son, Waylon, was born in 2009, followed by a daughter, Ada, in 2010.
In April 2018, they expanded their family again when Morgane gave birth to twin boys, Macon and Samuel. The twins’ arrival was announced at that year’s CMA Awards when Reba McEntire accepted the Album of the Year honor on Chris’ behalf and told the crowd, “Those little rascals came a little bit early. Hot off the press!”
Seven months later, the couple announced Morgane’s pregnancy with baby No. 5. She gave birth to another baby boy in May 2019.
