Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen are currently two of the biggest names in country music, which is why it’s no surprise that they’re both nominated for multiple honors at the 2025 CMA Awards.

Back in 2022, Moroney and Wallen were the subject of dating rumors amid the release of her song “Tennessee Orange” (more on that below). But were they ever actually a romantic item? Scroll down for everything we know.

Did Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen date?

No, Wallen and Moroney never officially dated. However, Moroney did hint at a past “friends with benefits” or “situationship”-type relationship with the “Whiskey Glasses” singer.

While appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2024, Moroney said she and Wallen never dated “exclusively,” adding, “It was never a relationship.”

Moroney said she and Wallen met in 2020 after being introduced by country singer Jon Langston. “We were friends for a long time. [Then] we were not just friends. And now we’re friends,” she concluded, with a smirk. The “Am I Okay?” singer reiterated, “[We were] never officially dating,” and said that they’re “friends” now.

“Because he’s such a private person, it just feels awkward talking about it,” Moroney admitted.

Why did fans think Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen were together?

Speculation about Moroney and Wallen’s relationship began with the release of “Tennessee Orange” in September 2022. On the track, Moroney, a Georgia Bulldogs graduate, sings about falling for someone who cheers for a rival school, the Tennessee Volunteers.

The promo art for the song featured a photo of Moroney in a Tennessee Vols T-shirt, and fans immediately pointed out that the shirt belonged to Wallen. “It is his shirt,” Moroney later confirmed. “But it’s just a shirt.”

In December 2022, Wallen released a song called “Tennessee Fan,” where he sings about turning a girl he’s falling for into a Vols fan. While the song’s subject is an Alabama football fan, not a Georgia Bulldogs fan, fans still theorized that Moroney was the inspiration.

Did Morgan Wallen write a song about Megan Moroney?

The buzz about Wallen and Moroney resurfaced in May 2025 with the release of his album, I’m the Problem, which featured a song called “TN.” Wallen is a cowriter on the track, and there’s a lyric that had fans once again pointing to his history with Moroney.

“I’d bet my last Rocky Top dollar that she’s in CO or CA, or back home in GA,” Wallen sings in one of the verses. “Any place she won’t see me, now the one thing I’s needin’ is the only damn thing I couldn’t keep in TN.” As fans pointed out, Georgia (GA) is Moroney’s home state, and this would be another track referencing their roots in Georgia and Tennessee.

Wallen has not confirmed whether or not the song is about Moroney.
