Are Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater still together?
Yes, Grande and Slater are still together. Despite recent speculation that things may have been fizzling out between them, a source confirmed to People on November 12 that the couple is going strong.
“They both have a lot going on, but their relationship is the real deal,” the outlet reported. “They’re incredibly supportive of each other’s careers and so excited for everyone to see their new film.”
The two have been able to see each other at various Wicked: For Good premieres over the past month, and Grande included Slater in her Instagram photo dump from the London premiere.
How did Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater meet?
Grande and Slater met while filming Wicked in 2022. She plays Galinda Upland (later Glinda the Good), while he plays Boq Woodsman.
When production on the movie began, both stars were in relationships with other people. Grande was married to Dalton Gomez, whom she wed in 2021. Slater was married to Lilly Jay, with whom he’d been in a relationship since 2012, and welcomed a child in August 2022.
Grande and Gomez’s separation was confirmed in February 2023, and they filed for divorce that September (it was finalized the following year). Slater filed for divorce from Jay in July 2023, and it was finalized in September 2024.
The public’s perception of the timeline sparked an online discourse against the couple, particularly because of Slater’s newborn child. “It definitely doesn’t get any easier, seeing some of the negativity that was birthed by disreputable tabloids,” Grande told Vanity Fair in 2024. “Of course, I went through a lot of life changes during the filming of this movie. A lot of people that were working on it did. We were away for two years. So, of course, I understand why it was a field day for the tabloids to sort of create something that paid their bills.”
The singer insisted that the narrative that played out in the media isn’t accurate. “The most disappointing part was to see so many people believe the worst version of it,” she shared. “That was definitely a tough ride.”
She specifically addressed the rumors that Slater ditched his wife and child for her. “There couldn’t be a less accurate depiction of a human being than the one that the tabloids spread about him,” Grande said. “No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about. There is no one on this earth with a better heart, and that is something that no bulls**t tabloid can rewrite in real life.”
