Ray Romano’s Kids: Everything to Know About the Actor’s 4 Children
From 1996 to 2005, Ray Romano played Ray Barone, a dad of three, on the beloved sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. In real life, the actor is a proud parent to four children: Daughter Alexandra Romano and sons Matthew Romano, Gregory Romano, and Joseph Romano.
Ray will be back in the spotlight for the Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion on Monday, November 24. Scroll down for a deep dive into his family with wife Anna Romano.
Who are Ray Romano’s kids?
Ray and Anna’s eldest child is their only daughter, Alexandra, who was born in August 1990. She married Zachary Wilezol in September 2024 and is currently pregnant with her first child. While Alexandra does have some acting credits from when she was a child, she pivoted her career to work for a “PR firm that handles celebrity chefs and restaurants,” Ray told Parade in 2023. In 2022, she served as a co-producer on Somewhere in Queens, which her dad directed.
Following Anna came twins Matthew and Gregory, who were born in January 1993. Matt’s last known position was production assistant on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Greg had the same position on The Late Late Show With James Corden until the show ended in 2023. Both boys are credited actors in Somewhere in Queens and Ice Age: The Meltdown, while Matt also has a few other credits, including Kevin Can Wait and The Neighborhood. Matt married Erica Jane in April 2024.

The youngest child in the family, Joseph, was born in February 1998. Ray has said that Somewhere in Queens is loosely based on his dynamic with Joseph, whom he’s called “the stupidest kid, or maybe the deepest.” Ray also revealed that his youngest son was the star of his high school basketball team and the “center of attention” in school.
Who is Ray Romano’s wife?
Ray’s wife is Anna Romano (née Scarpulla). The longtime couple met in the early 1980s while they were working at the same bank. He eventually left the position to pursue his career in comedy and asked her out after leaving the position. They went on to start dating in 1985 before tying the knot in 1987.
Anna’s parents came to America from a “little town in Sicily,” Ray once revealed. While he was pursuing his career in acting and comedy, Anna stayed home raising the couple’s four children. She is not in the entertainment industry, and Ray has said she has no interest in show business.
Anna was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer in 2010. The family dealt with the illness privately and did not publicly share Anna’s health issues until two years later. She made a full recovery after chemotherapy and radiation.
In a 2012 interview with People, Anna and Ray revealed that they didn’t tell the kids about her breast cancer diagnosis until they knew she had a “good” prognosis. “We waited to get the results from genetic testing, and it was negative,” Anna explained. “We wanted them to have all the information and not to worry if there wasn’t a reason. So we told them, and my youngest goes, ‘If you’re going to be alright, can I forget about it?'”
Were Ray Romano’s wife and kids on Everybody Loves Raymond?
Alexandra and Anna have both appeared on Everybody Loves Raymond. Anna’s appearance came in the premiere of Season 6. She played a mom at Ray’s TV sons’ school and appeared in the background of one scene.
Meanwhile, Alexandra had a recurring role on the show as Molly, the best friend of Ray’s onscreen daughter, Ally (Madylin Sweeten), who was named after his real-life firstborn.
Ray’s Everybody Loves Raymond character also has twin boys in the show. In the first episode, they were named Matthew and Gregory after his real-life sons, but the names were changed to Michael (Sullivan Sweeten) and Geoffrey (Sawyer Sweeten) because Ray felt the show was imitating his life too closely, according to The Chicago Tribune.
