We’re going to relish every bit of this Lifetime holiday movie. Swooon is exclusively debuting the first trailer for A Pickleball Christmas, starring James Lafferty and Zibby Allen, which will premiere on December 20 as part of Lifetime’s It’s a Wonderful Lifetime slate.
The One Tree Hill alum takes a break from basketball to play Luke Hollis, a tennis star who heads home to Florida for Christmas, only to find out his family’s racquet club is about to be sold. He joins forces with Caroline, the club’s pickleball coach, and even competes in a holiday pickleball tournament.
In the trailer, Luke is more than a little surprised by all the hype around pickleball. He has no idea it’s the “fastest growing sport in America.” (Just ask The Golden Bachelor‘s Gerry Turner!) When Luke signs up for the pickleball tournament, he thinks his tennis skills will be enough to secure the win.
Lifetime
Pickleball proves to be quite the pickle for Luke, so he turns to Caroline for help. As they work closely together, sparks start to fly on and off the court. At one point, Caroline believes they should “establish some boundaries” so they don’t cross any lines.
“I know pickleball is silly, but it’s given me community and friends,” Caroline tells Luke, who is touched by her honesty. The longer Luke plays, the more he realizes that he’s competing for more than a tournament win. He could be swinging for a victory in love.
A Pickleball Christmas marks Lafferty and Allen’s first holiday movie. Lafferty’s been busy in recent years with his series Everyone is Doing Great, which he directed, executive produced, and cowrote. The show is currently streaming on Tubi. Allen wrapped Virgin River Season 7 this year and will begin filming Season 8 in 2026. She plays the role of fan favorite Brie Sheridan.
