‘Zootopia 2’: Will Judy & Nick Ever Get Together? Ginnifer Goodwin Weighs In
What To Know
- Despite fan speculation, Zootopia leaves Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps’ relationship status ambiguous.
- During Zootopia 2, Nick and Judy’s relationship continues to go undefined.
- Ginnifer Goodwin, Judy’s voice actress, describes Nick and Judy as “soulmates” and embraces all interpretations of their bond.
Zootopia and Zootopia 2 heroes Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps have truly taken “Try Everything” to heart — except when it comes to admitting their true feelings for each other.
If you were to ask us if Nick (Jason Bateman) and Judy (Ginnifer Goodwin) ended up together during the first Zootopia movie, which debuted in theaters in 2016, we would have given you a resounding “absolutely.” However, during our pre-Zootopia 2 rewatch, we learned that the unlikely fox and bunny duo are just friends, or dare we say, well-acquainted colleagues. While we had hoped that Zootopia 2, which came out in November 2025, would give us some clarity on their relationship status, we left with even more questions than answers.
Luckily, following the smashing box-office success of the long-awaited sequel (No, really, this animated animal feature blew Wicked: For Good out of the water globally), Judy Hopps’ voice actress, Ginnifer Goodwin, weighed in on Nick and Judy’s potential romance. In her interview with Variety, the actress, best known for her role as Mary Margaret Blanchard/Snow White on Once Upon a Time, went as far as to say that Nick and Judy are “soulmates.”

“I haven’t gone down the [Nick x Judy] rabbit holes,” Goodwin shared, “but what I love most about Disney is that all different types of love are celebrated. Just like how Frozen is a celebration of sibling love, whatever people glean from Zootopia is valid. We made this movie for the public, so do with it what you will.”
While Goodwin did not reveal how she, as an audience member, would interpret Nick and Judy’s relationship, she told Variety, “I embrace all of it.” That being said, she did reveal that she and Nick Wilde’s voice actor, Jason Bateman, had discussed Nick and Judy having kids down the line. She explained, “Jason Bateman and I joked about what kind of creature would emerge from Judy and Nick as an offspring, and he pointed out that a fox and a bunny make a ‘Funny.'”

Heading into Zootopia 2, Goodwin and Bateman also explored the current phase of Nick and Judy’s relationship as if they were romantically involved. “We did discuss that Judy and Nick are now at a phase when you’ve just moved in together — when a relationship is still new, but you suddenly live in the same house and are figuring out what to do,” Goodwin revealed. “I feel like without question these characters are soulmates. That didn’t even need discussing.”
