Playing coy about their relationship status led to speculation that this adoration was just for the cameras. In a new interview, Anderson opened up about her relationship with Neeson and addressed the fake romance rumors head-on.
“I always was laughing when people thought, ‘Oh, that’s a publicity stunt.’ I’m like, ‘A publicity stunt? This is real. We have real feelings,'” Anderson told People.
The Last Showgirl star revealed she and Neeson were “romantically involved for a short while but only after we finished filming.” When they were dating, the pair spent an “intimate week” together at Neeson’s home in upstate New York. At dinner, Anderson gushed that the Taken star introduced her as the “future Mrs. Neeson.”
After their getaway, Anderson and Neeson went their separate ways, but they reconnected during the press tour for The Naked Gun. Even though there’s a lot of love between them, they are now just friends.
“I adore Liam,” she explained, “but we are better friends, in full honesty.” Anderson gushed that Neeson is a “supporter of this new trajectory in my career and kindly tells me he is very proud of me. I’m sure we will always be in each other’s lives.”
Neeson previously told People that he was “madly in love” with Anderson. “I can’t compliment her enough, I’ll be honest with you. No huge ego. She just comes in to do the work. She’s funny and so easy to work with. She’s going to be terrific in the film.”
The Irish actor was previously married to Natasha Richardson, with whom he has two sons, Micheál and Daniel. Richardson tragically died in 2009 at 45 after a skiing accident. Anderson has been married four times, including to Tommy Lee. They have two sons, Brandon and Dylan.
