A League of Their Own fans are getting some closure three years after the show’s cancellation.
Abbi Jacobson, who starred in and co-created the Prime Video reboot, has confirmed that she wrote an ending for every character, including Greta (D’Arcy Carden) and Carson (Jacobson). During a December 7 table read with the cast, Jacobson described the final moments of what would’ve been the show’s second season, before the 2023 industry strikes pushed Prime Video to reverse its renewal.
Jacobson and her collaborator, Will Graham, wrote Season 2 in a “truncated” way because it was cut to four episodes. Still, she said, “I love the way that we ended the show,” she added, per a fan recording of the event. “Especially the last 10 minutes of the last episode are really f**king good.”
Before getting the go-ahead from Graham, the actress hesitated a bit to lay the ending out there. Viewers will remember that Season 1 follows the Rockford Peaches during their first season in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. As the team tries to make a name for themselves in the 1940s, player (and eventual coach) Carson finds a forbidden romance with her teammate, Greta. At the same time, Max (Chanté Adams), a pitcher, is trying to find a way onto a baseball team that won’t reject her over her race.
In the Season 1 finale, Greta asks Carson to move to New York with her. “The scene in the kitchen with Greta and Carson was always one of my favorite scenes,” Jacobson said. “They talk about New York, and when they see each other in a certain amount of time, and then Peaches comes in, and they can’t speak anymore about it.”
Carson ultimately turns her down, but they share one last kiss before Greta’s about to leave, and they thank each other for helping each other open up again. We don’t know if or when they’ll ever see each other again — but Jacobson confirmed that they do, in fact, reunite.
Breaking down Season 2’s final moments, she said, “You see Carson in New York City on the street, like hustling through the street. I’m not balding with a mustache, but it’s like, in time. Five years, 10 years, whatever. Probably five years. But I’m hustling, I’m hustling, and you don’t know what’s happening. And then I meet up with Greta. So, they did that, and they’re late. They’re very, very late for a baseball game, and they’re going to see Max play in the negro leagues. And Clance [Max’s best friend] is there, and her family is there.”

Remember, Season 1 sees Clance (Gbemisola Ikumelo) grapple with pregnancy while her husband, Guy (Aaron Jennings), is off at war. “And Clance is there with the kid, and Guy’s there, and he’s OK,” Jacobson added. “And the rest of the season sees all of the other characters obviously, but we ended it with those two big relationships.”
Carden, who was part of the table read, gave her input on how the characters’ stories would’ve wrapped up. “I love that you see Greta and Carson not together,” she said. “Just imagining as an audience member, are they running into each other? Is this the first time that they’ve seen each other in years? It’s such a good ending.”
What do you think of what would’ve been the Season 2 ending? We still don’t know if Carson and Greta end up together, but it’s still better than nothing, right? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
