‘When Calls the Heart’ Star Chris McNally Makes Surprise Announcement at Hallmark Event

The When Calls the Heart family is growing — again! Chris McNally made a surprise announcement during the show’s panel at the Hallmark Christmas Experience on December 12.
The actor, who plays Lucas Broussard, was reflecting on filming Season 13 and pulled out a series of ultrasound photos from his pocket. That’s right, McNally revealed that his longtime girlfriend, fellow Hallmark star Julie Gonzalo, is pregnant, too!
“Something’s in the water!” Erin Krakow said. Her husband and costar, Ben Rosenbaum, chimed in, “Season 14, we’ll be opening up the Hope Valley nursery. Krakow and Rosenbaum are expecting a baby, as well as Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace.
Rosenbaum sweetly got up to shake McNally’s hand and congratulate him on the baby news, and then McNally shook McGarry’s hand as well. The When Calls the Heart trio of dads!
“And when we all look exhausted [in Season 14], you know why,” he quipped. McNally noted it was “really special” to hear such “incredible news” from his costars and be able to reply, “Us too.”

This will be McNally and Gonzalo’s second child together. The couple met on the set of the 2017 Hallmark movie The Sweetest Heart. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2022.
McNally and Gonzalo keep their personal life out of the public eye for the most part, but Gonzalo has given a few glimpses into their family life. In 2024, Gonzalo posted on Mother’s Day and shared a rare photo of her child, whose face was covered.
“My most favorite part of life is being your mama,” she wrote. “And thank you @chrismcnally for being the most incredible father and partner a girl could ever wish for.”
Back in 2023, McNally told Entertainment Tonight that fatherhood was his “favorite job” so far. “It’s a job I’ve always wanted to do and I’m really, really grateful that right now,” he said.
