The world of soaps has lost one of its most beloved titans. Anthony Geary, best known for playing Luke Spencer on General Hospital for decades, died on December 14 at the age of 78.
His husband, Claudio Gama, confirmed the actor’s death to TV Insider. “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband,” Gama said in a statement. The eight-time Daytime Emmy winner died following complications from an operation three days earlier.

Claudio Gama is Anthony Geary’s longtime love. The couple lived a blissful life together in Amsterdam. Following Geary’s retirement from acting in 2015, he lived with Gama full-time in Amsterdam.

Gama and Geary met in 1995. Gama posted about his anniversary with Geary in February 2025, but he didn’t share details about how exactly they met.
“Greetings and happy week to all from Amsterdam winter days it’s cold but dry this week is our anniversary week Tony and I met 30 years ago in February and got married 6 years ago also on February two anniversary’s to celebrate I have to find a good gift and make some special food maybe bake another cake that will make Tony from me Tony and Max stay safe and warm,” Gama posted at the time.

Geary and Gama were fairly private about their relationship, but Gama did point out in a sweet Valentine’s Day post that Geary sent him a sweet message during his 2012 Daytime Emmys acceptance speech. “My sweet valentine sending me a message from afar many years ago so sweet beijinhos meu amor,” Gama captioned a video of his husband on stage.
