What To Know

  • Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) has a reduced presence in Season 5 of Emily in Paris, which pivots to Emily in Rome with a new love interest.

  • He also spoke about Emily and Gabriel’s future in a potential Season 6.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Emily in Paris Season 5.]

Emily (Lily Collins) has had her fair share of love interests throughout Emily in Paris, but Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) has been in the running since the beginning. Emily and her French chef haven’t had it easy over the course of the show — and when they finally do manage to get together in Season 4, they split after a few episodes. Their love for each other has always been there, though, so Gabriel takes off for Rome to win Emily back by last season’s finale.

Though we see Gabriel make it there at the beginning of Season 5, he removes himself from the equation once he sees Emily with her new beau, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). After that, he takes Sylvie’s (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) advice to live his life on his own, and he all but vanishes once the show pivots towards Emily’s endeavors in Italy. So, why is Lucas Bravo hardly in Season 5? How does the show explain his character’s absence? Find out below.

Where is Gabriel in Emily in Paris Season 5?

Once he leaves Rome, Gabriel only makes a few more appearances. Why? Well, after all of that trouble he went through to get that Michelin star in Season 4, Gabriel decides to leave his Parisian restaurant behind. He wants to change up the menu and try new things, but Antoine doesn’t want to rock the boat. As the restaurant’s owner, he has the final say, so when Gabriel gets an offer to work as a private chef on a yacht, he jumps at the chance to travel the world.

All hope may not be lost for a Gabriel and Emily endgame, though. When Gabriel stops in Paris briefly, he asks Emily to bring him his knives from home — remember, they’re neighbors in the same building — and they have a brief lunch together to make the handoff. Later, they say goodbye at the train station, parting on good terms. Once he’s back on the yacht, Gabriel writes a letter to Emily, declaring his feelings for her and inviting her to join him in Greece.

Where is Lucas Bravo in Emily in Paris Season 5?

Explaining Gabriel’s lessened presence, executive producer Andrew Fleming told Us Weekly that Bravo had a prior commitment during Season 5 filming. “He had a movie that he was doing,” he said. “So we worked around that.”

Fleming added, “At no point was Luke ever leaving the show permanently.”

Last year, Bravo told IndieWire that his contract only went up to Season 4, and he was questioning if he wanted to be part of Season 5. He wasn’t happy with the direction his character had taken. “I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self,” he said. “Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore. It’s a comedy, everybody is having fun around me, everybody is jumping around, and I’m just slowly sinking into god knows what.”

He thought the show had stopped taking risks, saying, “Anything that could go off-road is carefully taken back. It’s a lot of souffles. Pregnant? No, fake positive. Going to Rome? No, coming back. There are a lot of things like that. There is a lack of risk.”

Though he made sure to note that he was grateful for the opportunity to play Gabriel, Bravo added, “When you love something you want it to be…you want the best version of it.”

Will Lucas Bravo be in a potential Emily in Paris Season 6?

There isn’t any news about Emily in Paris Season 6 just yet, but Fleming did talk about Gabriel’s future in Emily’s story. “Looking ahead, they’re part of each other’s journey,” he said. “Who is to say who Emily is going to end up with, but Emily and Gabriel are going to interact with each other. Stuff is going to happen [but] I really can’t say anything about what’s going to happen next season.”

He doubled down on Gabriel’s importance to Emily in Paris. “He’s part of the DNA of the show,” Fleming said. “When he and Emily are in a scene together, something undefinable happens. They have this chemistry. They do. There’s just something about the two of them that’s very watchable.”
