[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Fallout Season 1.]

Fallout‘s Lucy (Ella Purnell) and Ghoul (Walton Goggins) are different in almost every way possible. The former is an idealistic Vault Dweller, and despite being thrust into the chaotic Wasteland in Season 1, she refuses to compromise her ethics. The Ghoul, a hardened, mutated Wastelander, has no qualms about going to whatever lengths necessary to survive and find his family.

Their common goal — finding Lucy’s villainous dad (Kyle MacLachlan) — makes them reluctant allies in Season 2. Opposing morals and all, they’re still finding their groove as a team in the premiere episode, though the trailer hints that they’ll get closer over the course of the season. That progress has yet to be made, but some fans are already hoping that Ghoulcy becomes something more than friends.

Your gut reaction is either a firm no way, or maybe you can see the enemies-to-partners-to-lovers vision. On paper, Lucy and the Ghoul’s setup certainly sounds like it could foster a romance, unlikely as they may seem. I mean, all of the standard romance tropes are there if it goes that direction: forced proximity and opposites attract. They’ve got the banter, too. But that’s our take. What do the people playing them say?

“I’ve never heard that,” Goggins said in a joint interview with Purnell when asked about the ship. Purnell pointed out that she gets asked about Ghoulcy “a lot.” However, the actress was quick to shut it down. “Here’s what I would say: You guys need therapy,” she told Geek Culture. “You can’t fix him. You can’t save him. Let it go. Let it go, hon.”

She added, getting Goggins’ agreement, “I think that the relationship that the Ghoul and Lucy have is a really beautiful thing. You know, they’re both looking for the people that they love. Let’s leave it at that.”

Aaron Moten, who plays Maximus, was also sitting in on the interview. Lucy forms a bond with the Brotherhood of Steel member in Season 1, though their budding romance is put on pause when they’re separated in the finale. In an interview with ET, the actor revealed what he thinks of Ghoulcy: “I think it’s hilarious. I think that’s also kind of pretty, kind of beautiful in a broken, sort of twisted sort of way. Very Fallout.”

Are you more in line with Purnell or Moten? Are you still holding out hope for Ghoulcy, or would you rather that Maximus and Lucy find their way back to each other? Tell us your take in the comments below.
