‘Regretting You’: Allison Williams Reveals Her Favorite Chapter of Morgan & Jonah’s Love Story (VIDEO)

Allison Williams stepped into her first romance movie leading role in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s Regretting You. The novel follows Morgan (Williams) and Clara Grant (Mckenna Grace), a mother and daughter whose lives are changed forever by a life-altering accident that kills Chris (Scott Eastwood), Morgan’s husband and Clara’s dad, and Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald), Morgan’s sister.

This devastating tragedy further intertwines the lives of Morgan and Jonah (Dave Franco), the man who has always harbored feelings for her. Since they were teenagers, Jonah has had to hide his love for Morgan, but they reconnect amid their shared heartbreak. As they heal and try to move forward, Morgan and Jonah get their well-deserved second chance. Swooon spoke with Allison Williams about the stage of Morgan and Jonah’s relationship that she loved tackling the most.

“I loved playing the tension of them when they were younger and that kind of flirtatiousness that can only exist when you believe that life will just continue this way forever,” Williams told Swooon ahead of Regretting You’s digital release. “There are no unforeseen variables that are going to pop up, that you can just keep this flirtation going, and this guy will be in the periphery forever, and you never have to really make any decisions. And yeah, maybe someday we’ll get together, but it’s that kind of everything-is-possible love I found really, really sweet.”

She continued, “And then I also found that knowing each other in that context and then re-meeting each other later in life kept themselves honest in a way that I really loved. But all of our scenes were really important and really powerful, and it was fun to dip in and out of that nostalgia to inform them.”

Morgan is far from perfect when it comes to navigating her relationship with her daughter and feelings for Jonah, but Williams loved embracing her character’s imperfections.

“Morgan’s flaws are what really drew me to her, but I also really resonated with her experience of motherhood,” Williams explained. “I’m someone who would love complete control over everything in my life, and would love to be able to keep our son as close to me as possible for all time. But I know intellectually that motherhood and parenthood is really about letting go and letting kids individuate.”
