Did ‘Bridgerton’s Showrunner Just Confirm a Major Benophie Book Moment for Season 4?
Bridgerton‘s fourth season is quickly approaching, and showrunner Jess Brownell is giving book readers a promising tease surrounding Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie’s (Yerin Ha) romance ahead of Part 1.
As part of Shondaland’s “12 Days of Bridgerton” celebration leading up to Christmas, an all-new video message from Brownell appears to confirm a major Benophie book moment beyond the already teased lake and kite scenes. In the video posted to Shondaland’s Instagram, Brownell was asked to answer a series of questions, including what fans will find tantalizing about the season as well as what easter eggs or hints they should look out for.
“Can I say bathtub?” Brownell shared in response to the final query, which is sure to elicit plenty of excitement from readers of Julia Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman, as the bath scene is one of Benophie’s most vulnerable encounters in the book, only heightening our excitement and making our imaginations run wild.

For those less acquainted with the novel, beware of book spoilers ahead. In An Offer From a Gentleman, the bath scene follows a particularly harrowing experience when Sophie is sent to prison after her former employer and technical stepmother, Araminta (played by Katie Leung), accuses her of stealing.
While it’s unclear how things will unfold in the TV adaptation, in the book, Benedict helps rescue Sophie with his family, and he brings her to his lodgings, where he helps her bathe. Brownell’s words seem to reconfirm that Season 4 of Bridgerton is about to be one of the show’s most faithful, book-wise, after the previously teased inclusion of the lake scene, which Ha confirmed to Swooon back in October 2024.
Only time will tell what the show’s version of the bath scene will look like, but Brownell’s words are promising, in addition to the other teases she offered. “This season is tantalizing in so many ways,” she stated in the video. “We’ve got upstairs-downstairs, we’ve got fantasy meets reality, we’ve got forbidden romance, so take your pick… It’s a real platter of tantalizing options.”
Additionally, she shared, “I think something that’s really surprising about this season is getting to see new levels from Benedict Bridgerton. He’s a character who we think we’ve seen it all from, you know. He’s done it all, he’s seen it all, but what he hasn’t been is really vulnerable and really committed, and finally this season Sophie will challenge him to do that.”
January can’t come soon enough! Let us know what you think of Brownell’s tease in the comments section, and stay tuned for more on Bridgerton in the weeks ahead.
