Ina met her now-husband in 1963 when she was just 15 years old, visiting her brother at Dartmouth College. The couple went on their first date that same year and eventually tied the knot in 1968. Despite a near divorce in the 1970s, Ina and Jeffrey have been together ever since.
The Barefoot Contessa star paid tribute to her and Jeffrey’s relationship history in celebration of their 57th wedding anniversary. “Happy anniversary, babe,” she captioned a Monday, December 22, Instagram post. “Marrying someone smart, funny, and adorable is always a good idea!!”
While Ina’s caption was sweet, it was the post’s photos that had fans in a frenzy. Ina shared several rare throwback photos from her and Jeffrey’s early days as a couple. The post’s first slide featured a pic of the two hanging out in what looks like a Dartmouth College dorm room.
Another slide features a snap Ina took of Jeffrey sitting on a bench, while others showed cute couple shots. The post’s last few slides included more recent pics of the pair traveling and enjoying meals together.

Ina opened up about her and Jeffrey’s relationship on a November episode of Amy Poehler‘s Good Hang podcast. “We don’t have kids, we don’t have cats and dogs, we don’t have gerbils,” she shared. “It’s just the two of us, and if we’re trying to figure out what to do… This is what Jeffrey taught me: Let’s figure out how we can both do what we want to do. It’s not about whether we get to do what you want to do or I want to do.”
Ina said she loves that their shared mindset is one of the things she loves about Jeffrey, adding, “He’s so respectful, and it’s pretty hard not to return that.” After Poehler stated that it can be easy to forget respectfulness with someone you’re so close to, Ina said, “I don’t take it for granted, ever.”
