While Palm Beach socialite Gale Brophy isn’t one of the main cast members on Netflix’s new, sun-soaked high society series, Members Only: Palm Beach, her presence as one of the most influential members of Palm Beach society was definitely made known.
When Members Only: Palm Beach star Rosalyn Yellin sat down with Swooon to discuss the new series, she let us in on her “very special bond” with Gale Brophy, and revealed how she really felt about Gale’s decision to pass her “Queen of Palm Beach” baton to her.
Scroll to find out all about Gale Brophy, including how she made her fortune, who she was married to, and all about her relationship with Rosalyn, in Rosalyn’s own words.
Who is Gale Brophy?
According to her Palm Beach successor, Rosayln, Gale Brophy “is a true Palm Beach socialite.” As Rosalyn put it, “She has been in Palm Beach and chaired the highest galas for the past 40-plus years.” Rosalyn made it clear that Gale once had “a magnificent mansion” on the ocean, but she doesn’t any longer, since she doesn’t want that responsibility now that she’s “a little older.”
Gale Brophy’s LinkedIn reveals that she is the CEO of Estates By Brophy, “a hospitality company that offers two 5-star estate getaways in the Catskills for corporate retreats, weddings, family reunions, and other special events.” Outside of her business, she is a philanthropist who owns and breeds race horses. She even won the Kentucky Derby in 1991 with the horse Strike the Gold.
Who was Gale Brophy’s husband?
Gale Brophy’s husband was Giles Brophy, president of Giles Securities of Manhattan. He passed away in 2006. At the time, she wrote, “I have sincerely lost my mentor, best friend, and father of our 15-year-old son with the passing of Giles Brophy. I admired and respected him over the years, and some of my greatest moments were because of Giles: our son, owning four Wall Street companies together, and winning the Kentucky Derby with Strike The Gold, as well as sharing success with Thirty-Six Red and SportsView. We had wonderful times, and Giles will always be in both my and our son’s thoughts and prayers with the warmest and fondest of memories.”
How did Gale Brophy and Rosalyn Yellin meet?
Rosalyn revealed to Swooon, “I met Gale five years ago at a charity function, and Gale and I just really connected, and we have a very special bond, a wonderful relationship. I love Gale. Gale loves me.” She continued, “When I met Gale, the first thing she said to me was, ‘You are going to be my new queen. You are going to chair events.'” However, at the time, that was not Rosalyn’s ambition. She explained, “My ambition was just to enjoy the charity world, meet nice people, find charities that I was very passionate about, and where I felt that I could help the most.”

Did Rosalyn expect Gale to name her the new Queen of Palm Beach?
According to Rosalyn, she had no idea that Gale was ready to pass down that metaphorical baton. She explained to Swooon, “No, I didn’t really expect it, because I never really had those true ambitions. I really do for the charities what I do out of the bottom of my heart. I devote a lot of time to charities that I’m passionate about. And I was not expecting that, but in Palm Beach, that’s very, very important.”
For viewers of Members Only: Palm Beach, Rosalyn explained, “What people will see about the show is that life in Palm Beach is very different from anywhere else, and the charity world is a very important part of it. And if you’re not doing charity work at that high level, then you will not be a queen in Palm Beach, because you need to be on that stage. You need to be hosting the event. You need to be hosting the galas, but you also have to be bringing in millions and millions of dollars. It is not easy. It’s not an easy position or job to do, but I was very honored at her passing me the baton, and I take it very seriously.”
