We miss you, Lady Jane. Over one year since My Lady Jane was canceled on Prime Video, Emily Bader is sharing details about what could have happened in a potential second season.
While chatting about her upcoming movie, People We Meet on Vacation, Bader revealed that My Lady Jane‘s creator and showrunner, Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn, “fully wrote” Season 2 before the series got the axe.
“We had talked about it. There was talks of possibly ships being out in the season, kind of pirate vibe,” Bader shared with Brit + Co. “I know that I had personally requested some, maybe, horseback archery.”
Based on the book of the same name by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows, My Lady Jane put a fantastical twist on the story of Lady Jane Grey (Bader), a.k.a. England’s “Nine Days Queen.” The story follows Jane as she uses her newfound power as queen to help English society become more accepting of Ethians, a.k.a. people who can transform into animals at will, all while her villainous cousin, Princess Mary (Kate O’Flynn), plots to steal the throne from her.
On top of the royal drama, the show also follows Jane’s enemies-to-lovers romance with Lord Guildford Dudley (Edward Bluemel). After being thrust into marriage, Jane agrees to help Guilford cure his uncontrollable Ethian abilities in exchange for a divorce. In true rom-com fashion, the pair form a genuine connection as conflict in the country intensifies, leading to both being sentenced to death.

Unlike the pair’s tragic real-life ends, Season 1 ends with Jane and Guildford escaping death and riding off into the sunset, promising to return to England to continue the fight against Mary.
“I really think, you know, the way that she’s left is as this sort of wanted criminal,” Bader continued. “And I think what I would like to have imagined in my mind is that she decides now that she is what’s best for the country. For the first time, she chooses that she needs to be queen, when in the first season, obviously, it’s forced upon her.”
Bader has since traded in her crown for a suitcase to portray Poppy in Netflix’s adaptation of Emily Henry‘s People We Meet on Vacation. The story follows former besties Poppy and Alex (Tom Blyth) as they reunite for another summer trip years after their previous vacation fractured their friendship. Told in flashbacks and in the present, Poppy and Alex question whether their relationship is more than platonic.
In her Brit + Co interview, Bader weighed in on whether Jane and Poppy would be friends with each other. “I think Jane would take a second. I think right off the boat, she’d be like, ‘Whoa. Hold off for a second,'” the actress quipped. “But deep down, there’s a lot of similarities between the two of them.”

She continued, “I think that they’re both very powerful, kind of, independent young women who know exactly who they are and won’t let people tell them otherwise. So, I think it would be sort of like an enemies-to-friends arc, where in the beginning, there would be some judgment. And then, they would grow really close.”
