What To Know

  • Matt Damon is married to Luciana Barroso, who worked as a producer on his latest film, The Rip.
  • Damon’s family joined him for a rare public appearance at The Rip premiere.

It was a family affair at the premiere of the new thriller The Rip, which saw Matt Damon‘s wife and daughters join the actor on the red carpet.

The 55-year-old’s longtime love, Luciana Barroso, has publicly supported her husband over the years, but recently, she’s stepped into the spotlight more. Her husband has opened up about their private romance on occasion, revealing once that Luciana helped him through low moments of his career, but she’s made more headlines since signing on as a producer on The Rip.

Damon stars in the Netflix film alongside friend and collaborator Ben Affleck, who appeared with him on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show. While promoting their new project, Luciana came up — as did a funny anecdote. When she first saw Good Will Hunting, before she met Damon, Luciana thought Affleck was “the cute one.”

Now that their personal and professional lives have become intertwined, what else is there to know about Luciana, her relationship with Damon, and their family? Scroll to find out more about Damon’s life as a girl dad.

How many children does Matt Damon have?

Damon recently opened up about parenting four girls on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. The actor said not to listen to anyone’s parenting advice because “they’re all so different.” He added, “Your kids show up — like that spirit that soul is there, and it’s going to do what it’s going to do. The nurture part is very important; you’re going to be helping with that, but they really are who they are right away.”

Who are Matt Damon’s daughters?

Alexia Barroso

Before Damon married Luciana, she was a single mom to Alexia, who was 7 years old when her mom got remarried. Alexia came along during Luciana’s first marriage to Arbello Barroso, when she was still living in Argentina. By the time Damon came into the picture, Alexia was living in Miami.

She occasionally attends events with her stepdad, who has offered some tidbits about his stepdaughter. In 2015, Damon told USA Today that he’d taught Alexia how to drive. “My oldest daughter just got her license yesterday,” he said. “She would drive last year just to school every morning. We’d get in the car and drive.”

Alexia also had a cameo in Damon’s We Bought a Zoo in 2009. According to what seems to be her LinkedIn profile, Alexia seems to have a passion for entertainment like her dad. After graduating from the New School in 2022, she’s had various photography and videography gigs, working at Netflix and Paramount Pictures. She’s currently a freelance photographer.

Isabella Damon

Isabella came along in 2006. In 2021, Damon told E! News that the now-19-year-old is “like one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. She’s really cool.”

The actor also explained that Isabella is a tough critic. “If the reviews come out and they’re terrible, then she’ll watch it,” he said. “If they come out and they’re good, she’s going to pass… She’s looking for ammunition all the time.”

She’s also a big Harry Styles fan. “We gave my 15-year-old a life-size cardboard cutout of Harry Styles,” Damon told interviewer Tara Hitchcock. “Harry Styles did a little video and said ‘Hello’ to her, and she lost her mind. I think that was the best we’ve done so far. I don’t know how we’ll top it.”

Gia Damon

Gia was born in 2008. Like Isabella, Gia gives her dad some grief. On The Rip red carpet, she poked fun at Damon’s pose. “Why are you standing like this?” Gia said, per USA Today. She hunched forward and put her arms out, imitating Damon.

Stella Damon

Stella came along in 2010, making her the youngest member of the Damon family at 15. Stella and her sisters lived in Ireland with their mom and dad for a time, after the latter filmed The Last Duel. They relocated to California afterward.

In 2021, the family moved back to New York City, according to People. After leaving Ireland, Matt and Luciana moved the family back to New York City. “We’re moving at the end of the month and school’s September. We can’t wait to move back here,” Matt told People of their relocation from California, where they had been living when they weren’t traveling for his work.

As for the prospect of eventually living with three teenage daughters in one house, he joked, “I might have to find a rental apartment, but I’m excited.”

Who is Matt Damon’s wife?

Argentina-born Luciana was a former bartender-turned-interior designer when she married Damon. Luciana was 29 when they tied the knot, which makes her around 49 years old in 2026.

How did Matt Damon meet his wife?

Luciana was working at a Miami bar when she and Damon met for the first time. The actor was filming the comedy Stuck on You, and they almost didn’t meet. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011, Damon said that filming was originally supposed to take place in Hawaii.

Further, he didn’t even want to go out the night that they met, but a crew member encouraged him to go. “I literally saw her across a crowded room, literally,” he recalled. “I don’t know how else our paths would’ve crossed if that didn’t happen.”

In a rare interview, Luciana recounted their meet-cute in greater detail to Vogue Australia. “He had started getting recognized and asked for pictures and autographs, and then it got kind of aggressive because people are drinking and stuff. So he came and hid behind the bar… [wanting to] just hang out back there and have a drink. He says, ‘Oh, I saw you, and I really wanted to talk to you.'”

Luciana decided to have her future-husband help manage the bar. “He had trained as a bartender for a film years before, so he started making drinks,” she added. “And he made me a ton of money in tips that night, because of course everyone wanted to go and see him.”

How long have Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso been together?

That picture-perfect scene played out in April 2003, which Damon revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. They started dating after that, though Luciana couldn’t immediately take Damon up on his offer to go out after working her shift at the bar.

Luciana explained to Vogue Australia, “We definitely had a connection right away, it was so easy to talk to each other, we were very comfortable [with each other], and by the end of the night, he invited me to go out with his friends.

She continued, “But I was like, ‘I can’t, I have a four-year-old daughter, I’m not going anywhere’ … and that was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter,” she recalled. “He said, ‘I love that you’re a mum and that’s your priority.’ Some guys might have been different, they might think it’s complicated, but for him it wasn’t.”

Two years later, they married in 2005. “I’m lucky I found my wife,” the actor gushed, per People. “I guess maybe, if there’s any secret … it’s to feel lucky. I think marriage is insane. It’s a crazy idea, but I love being married to my wife. So I wouldn’t tell anybody else anything about their relationship.”
