‘Bridgerton’: Hannah Dodd Explains How Francesca Meeting Michaela Impacts Her Season 4 Journey
What To Know
- Bridgerton star Hannah Dodd opens up about Francesca’s reaction to meeting Michaela.
- The star also teases how that fateful introduction is impacting Francesca’s relationship with John in Season 4.
- In Julia Quinn’s books, Francesca’s endgame love is with John’s cousin, Michael, who has been adapted into Michaela for the TV show.
Bridgerton Season 4 is nearly here, which means that fans are that much closer to understanding the impact of Francesca (Hannah Dodd) meeting Michaela (Masali Baduza).
For fans of Julia Quinn’s novel When He Was Wicked, they know that Francesca’s endgame love is her husband John’s (Victor Alli) cousin, Michael. In the TV adaptation, Michael was transformed into Micheala, and fans were clued into the cosmic connection between her and Francesca based on the latter’s reaction to her in Season 3’s final ball.
But it isn’t an instantaneous revelation regarding Francesca’s feelings for Michaela, as fans of the book know that she is committed to John until, [Spoiler Alert], he dies suddenly. In Quinn’s novel, Francesca finds comfort in John’s cousin, and whether the show will follow this pattern or not will remain to be seen, but we couldn’t help but ask Dodd about where Francesca’s head is after she meets Michaela and is rendered momentarily speechless.

“I think that moment in the ball, she doesn’t really know what it is. I think it’s just a different feeling,” Dodd muses of Francesca’s initial assessment of her reaction to Michaela in Season 3. How that dynamic has shifted between the end of Season 3 and heading into Season 4 will certainly be intriguing.
As for where Francesca’s headspace is now, Dodd shares, “She’s happily married, and they’ve gone off to Scotland together, and now they’re back in London, and I think she’s just in a place where she’s really trying to invest time into her relationship with John.” As Dodd points out, “I think people forget that they’ve barely spent any time together in these relationships in those days, they haven’t spent that much time together, so now they’re living together, they’ve got a house together, she’s the head of a household, so it’s a whole new life for Francesca.”
How Michaela factors into it all is for fans to discover as Season 4 unfolds, but as a Francesca-focused promo video teases, there’s some tension, as well as hopes for a growing family on Francesca’s end. Dodd echoes that sentiment about Francesca and John’s journey as she teases, “It’s really nice to see that relationship grow and have them exploring that relationship in many different ways.”
Tune in to see how the newlyweds are doing and how Francesca’s handling her connection with Michaela as Season 4 picks up.
