Stephanopoulos’ wife is Ali Wentworth, an actress and comedienne. She got her start on In Living Color in the early 1990s, then began making appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Wentworth has also appeared on episodes of Seinfeld and Felicity.
From 2012 to 2014, Wentworth hosted Daily Shot With Ali Wentworth. She’s also guest-hosted Live With Kelly and Ryan many times over the years, and created and starred in the series Nightcap in 2016 and 2017.
How did George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth meet?
Stephanopoulos and Wentworth met on a blind date in April 2001. They were set up by a mutual friend. “One of [my friends] said, ‘You should go out with my old boyfriend, George Stephanopoulos.’ And I said, ‘No, thank you,'” Wentworth revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in 2017.
She admitted that she initially wasn’t interested in dating her now-husband. “I grew up in D.C. around politics, so that was not sexy to me,” she shared, referencing Stephanopoulos’ career as a political journalist. However, she eventually agreed to go on the date.
“I came in, we sat down, we both ordered the crab salad,” Wentworth said. “And, I’m telling you, by the end of lunch, [it was] done.”
Stephanopoulos was clearly on the same page, as he popped the question to Wentworth just two months later in June 2001. They got married in a traditional Greek wedding that November.

Yes, Stephanopoulos and Wentworth are parents to two children. Their first daughter, Elliott, was born in September 2002, followed by their second daughter, Harper, in June 2005.

The family has lived in New York City since 2009, when they relocated there from Washington, D.C., for Stephanopoulos’ job on Good Morning America. After the couple became empty nesters in 2024, Wentworth told People, “We were traumatized at first, and now it’s kind of fun. [We’re] young and in love again.”
