What To Know

  • Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Emma’s (Braedyn Bruner) romance took a significant step forward in the January 15 episode of General Hospital.
  • The actors revealed to Swooon a moment they added into one of their scenes that wasn’t scripted and has since become a recognizable aspect of their relationship.

Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Emma (Braedyn Bruner) are quickly becoming one of the most beloved pairings on General Hospital. The young couple’s slow burn romance has blossomed over the last year, and they just took the next step in their relationship in the January 15 episode.

As Mazza and Bruner looked back on Gio and Emma’s love story so far, they revealed to Swooon how they added a touch of romantic magic all on their own. This unscripted move has since become Gemma’s “thing” that fans have noticed and loved.

“We started adding our own things in earlier on,” Bruner said. “So, some of the stuff that you saw back at the Nurses’ Ball [in May 2025], where I held his hand at the bridge, or any time that he’s held my hand, that kind of became our thing. The hand holding was never something that was written in the scenes.”

Mazza added, “In that scene where Braden reaches out her hand to hold mine and she said, ‘Where you go, I go,’ they were like, ‘Wait, wait, wait, we need to do that again. We need to get a shot of you guys holding hands.’ From there, it became a thing. Whenever we would feel like it, we would hold each other’s hands and be the shoulder to cry on. The fans just were obsessed with it, and then the writers were writing it in.”

Gio and Emma are closer than ever, and the foundation they’ve built will help them face the challenges ahead. Mazza noted that it was important to “solidify their relationship” so that Emma has “this rock that she can always come to because I think she’s just going to go to new heights, on a journey of ups and downs, and hopefully he will be there every step of the way.”

If Gio’s by Emma’s side, he’ll definitely be holding her hand.
