Who Are Karamo Brown’s Kids? A Guide to the ‘Queer Eye’ Star’s Family
Karamo Brown is a father to two children, but his family is anything but conventional. The Queer Eye star came out as gay when he was a teenager, but not before he had conceived a child with his high school girlfriend.
However, he didn’t find out he was a father until his son was 10 years old. In 2006, child support paperwork appeared on his doorstep, and a paternity test revealed that he had a son. He later adopted his son’s half-brother, as well.

Who are Karamo Brown’s kids?
Karamo’s sons are Jason “Rachel” Brown and Christian Brown. They were born in November 1996 and March 2000, respectively.
The Real World alum was living in California when he found out his ex-girlfriend had been raising their son in Houston for 10 years. He moved to Texas so he could be part of Jason’s life and even gained full custody of the child in 2007, he revealed in an interview with The Advocate.
While spending time building a relationship with his son, Karamo also started getting to know Jason’s half-brother, Christian. Christian had been getting into trouble around that time, so he moved in with Karamo and Jason to “get back on the right path.” In 2010, Jason and Christian’s mother agreed to let Karamo legally adopt Christian and become his legal guardian so that the brothers could live together. The trio relocated to Los Angeles in 2011.
When Jason was 21, he came out to Karamo as pansexual. Jason has followed in his father’s footsteps with a career in the entertainment industry. Today, he hosts and executive produces the podcast Intrusively Thinking. In 2022, Karamo revealed that Jason nearly died from a drug overdose two years earlier.
On his talk show, Karamo, in October 2024, Karamo revealed that he and Christian are estranged and had been for a few years. “At 20 years old, Chris was going through some issues, and I was like, ‘You can’t keep doing these things.’ There were some guns involved…” he shared.
“I love that boy, still to this day,” he continued. “The last time I saw him, he decided to leave my house. I didn’t kick him out of the house. I told him he had to start trying and doing better. He stopped taking medication for his bipolar. That played into, I think, some of these decisions. He left.” Karamo revealed that Christian still has a relationship with his mother.
After the segment was filmed, Christian sent Karamo a video that aired during the talk show episode. “I’m very sorry for what I did,” he began.”It just made distance between us. You didn’t kick me out, you didn’t tell me I had to leave, which is true. I just felt like I always have to have this alter-ego of me doing everything by myself when I have a father who takes the time to help me. I pushed you away.”
He continued, “You’re always trying to show me a path that’s easier, but I was always choosing a rougher path in life. I understand now that you were trying to help me. … I do apologize, and I know it’s been a few years. It takes time, especially when a loved one is coming at you and saying things and just acting a certain type of way when it never had to go down in that direction. I understand that, and I’m genuinely sorry.”
Who is the mother of Karamo Brown’s kids?
Stephanie Brooks is the mother of Karamo’s children. She moved away from the high school that she and Karamo went to while she was pregnant. Stephanie was Karamo’s “last girlfriend in high school” before he came out, he told Parents.com.
At first, Stephanie opted to keep Jason a secret from Karamo. However, when she applied for benefits from the state, officials mailed the reality star paperwork that revealed he had fathered a child. The documents did not say where Stephanie and her child lived, so Karamo had to travel to Texas to track them down, which he ultimately was able to do.

Stephanie appears to still have a relationship with the boys, as Jason posted a photo with her on Instagram in June 2025. According to her Instagram, she is now the mother of five kids and works at Greystar, a residential housing rental company.
“My mom and I have a great relationship,” Jason told Slate in 2018. “We talk every single day, she is on board, and she loves the Queer Eye show. She’s very supportive of me and my brother, him becoming a rapper and myself joining the entertainment industry. She’s a funny woman. I love my mom.”
Karamo and Stephanie also have an amicable relationship, which they proved when she appeared on his talk show in 2024.
Is Karamo Brown married?
No, Karamo is not married. He is currently single. However, he previously got engaged to Ian Jordan in May 2018, with plans for a summer 2020 wedding. The nuptials were proposed amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and Karamo revealed in September 2020 that they ended their relationship. Karamo and Ian were together for 10 years before their split.
The men realized that their communication was struggling as they dealt with their kids and careers. “It was hard. We went to virtual counseling, we did a lot of things,” Karamo admitted. “But eventually, I was like, this is a moment where I need to decide, is my happiness important? And once I made that decision, I said, you know, we are going to have to break up.”
In 2021, Karamo started dating Carlos Medel, a photographer. The two had met when they were in other relationships, although Karamo insisted there was “no funny business going on.” They reconnected after their breakups.
By 2024, Karamo confirmed to Us Weekly that he and Carlos were still in a “healthy relationship.” However, the photographer confirmed in a February 2025 now-deleted Instagram post that they had split.
