Get to Know Mina Sue Choi, the ‘Single’s Inferno’ Standout & Former Miss Earth
Thirteen new singles have landed on Inferno island, including Mina Sue Choi. The 26-year-old became a talking point as soon as the first batch of Single’s Inferno episodes dropped, particularly when she revealed her top three guys and wound up expressing interest in someone else. But her off-screen life has caught the attention of fans, too.
Single’s Inferno Season 5 isn’t the first time she’s been in the spotlight: Mina Sue has a history of competing in beauty pageants and reality TV. Read on for everything we know about the Miss Earth alum, including where she’s from, her education, and more.
Who is Mina Sue Choi?
Though Single’s Inferno takes place in Korea, Mina Sue has lived in several countries. She was born in Sydney, Australia, and she’s since resided in Canada, China, and the United States. The latter is where Mina Sue is currently based since she started studying communications at the University of Illinois.
In 2022, while she was still enrolled at the university, the breakout star made history as the first Korean woman to win an international pageant title, coming in first at the Miss Earth competition after earning first runner-up in Miss Korea 2021.
“It was an absolute honor to represent Korea and be the country’s first-ever pageant winner,” she told The Korea Times. “There has been a negative perception of beauty pageants in Korea. By winning Miss Earth, I hope to bring changes to people’s minds. Of course, I need to work harder, but I’m proud of what I accomplished.”
During Miss Earth, she chose to advocate for wildlife protection, and she went on to serve as the ambassador of the Miss Earth Foundation and the U.N. Environment Programme, working with the World Wildlife Fund.
“Everyone can have a say about environmental issues. As a third culture kid who grew up in Australia, the U.S., Canada and China, I am able to embrace the challenges of learning a new culture and approach social problems from a global perspective,” she said.
Before joining Single’s Inferno, Mina Sue appeared in the Korean reality competition show Battle for Tenancy: Penthouse, coming in seventh place.
