‘Boston Blue’: Donnie Wahlberg Gives Danny & Baez Update Ahead of Season 1’s Return
What To Know
- Donnie Wahlberg confirmed that Danny Reagan is staying in Boston in Boston Blue, while his girlfriend, Maria Baez, is staying in New York.
- The move to Boston significantly impacts Danny’s relationships with both his New York and Boston families.
- Wahlberg teased that Baez will return in upcoming episodes, and the show will feature guest appearances from more Blue Bloods alums and new guest stars.
New York native Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) is staying in Boston for the foreseeable future. His girlfriend, Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), has no interest in leaving New York. So, how will this impact their relationship moving forward in Boston Blue? Wahlberg recently gave a relationship update on Danny and Baez.
Wahlberg and others from his Boston Blue team attended a panel with the Television Critics Association on Tuesday, January 27. Danny gave up his NYPD badge in December’s midseason finale, signaling his permanent move to Boston. Where does that leave his new relationship?
“They’re figuring things out,” Wahlberg told TCA. “I’m not going to reveal too much to you right now. I will just tell you that it’s not resolved. And she will be back in the coming episodes.”
He then revealed that Len Cariou will be back as “Grandpa Reagan,” aka Henry from Blue Bloods, when Season 1 returns in February, and that Holly Robinson Peete and Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown will appear in the show. Then he got back into the Danny and Baez updates.
Danny’s moving to Boston “affects everyone,” Wahlberg said. “It doesn’t just affect Danny; it doesn’t just affect Sean [Reagan, played by Mika Amonsen]. It affects the Silver family, and it affects his New York family, and it affects Maria. So I think one thing I can say is that everybody, including me, sometimes can’t believe that this guy is in Boston. Sometimes I wake up and pinch myself.”
Wahlberg, a famous Boston native, continued, “I go, this is surreal. I’m sure all of the Reagans would do the same. How did he end up in Boston, and how did this happen? And he’s going to come home eventually. He’s so New York. But I think that’s part of it. It’s like everyone’s sort of hoping and thinking and wondering, is he really going to do this? And I think more so, Maria, she’s like, I know at some point in time he’s going to come back home. It’s just he’s Mr. New York. And I think as people start to realize he is staying in Boston, he has a phenomenal partner who makes him a better detective, and he’s part of a surrogate family now that gives him what he’s missing in New York. The only thing he’s really missing is the relationship with his girlfriend. And I think as she starts to realize he’s really not coming back, she’ll have a choice to make, and she’ll make it or she won’t.”
Boston Blue has been renewed for a second season, so there’s plenty of time for Danny and Baez to figure out their next steps. Baez will be back in Boston Blue Season 1’s second half.
